  1. My Macedonian friend tells me bureks are like the bagels of Macedonia. Let me tell you, they're pretty tasty! Now, I've never had burek. Or even heard of it for that matter. On the drive over, it sounded similar to spanakopita, except I also had the options of meat, cheese, or potato instead of just spinach.

The restaurant is more like a lunch counter, serving mostly pastries. So I guess it is very similar to bagel shop in that aspect. The bureks were behind a glass case, similar to pizza joints where you get a slice reheated. My friend ordered us the spinach burek and the cheese burek. I liked both a lot. They were very flaky with thin layers, like phyllo dough, just not as buttery/greasy.

My friend also got us some yogurt in cup. Apparently, it's homemade. It's like Greek yogurt. Plain Greek yogurt. I wasn't a fan at first since it was literally like drinking plain Chobani, but after a few more sips it grew on me. Total bill for 2 bureks and 2 yogurts was $10.

Now I got a new spot to stop by on my motorcycle for a snack.

  2. My boyfriend is Albanian and I been eating burek since day 1 with him. We usually have to go to Staten Island to get some. These bureks are so delicious and the homemade yogurt is to die for. They have a good variety from meat, cheese, potato or spinach. The owners are Bosnian. We love going to eat here and do not mind the to go out to Clifton even though we live in jersey city. A must go to place even if you are familiar with burek or even if you want to try something new.

  3. Absolute to die for food. So glad they have other locations in Queens because if I had to come to Jersey all the time for this I would but it would be a pain.
THAT SAID- great location, great food.

So I came here in search of Sampita- a calorically intense dessert I read about in a New York Times article. It's a thin syrup soaked poundcake with a staggering mountain of meringue on top….  I knew I needed to eat immediately. And boy did it live up to my expectations. It was so rich and wonderful I couldn't even finish it, but man, did I want to.

Then to top it off, warm, tender and flakey Bureks. A food that delivers literally everything you could ever want from a savory dish. It's one of the most satisfying foods I've ever eaten.

We also happened to run into the owner of the place who was super friendly and informative.

All in all the PERFECT lunch. Can't wait to go to the other locations.
