I had an overwhelming craving for Thai food, while driving back from my mom house I spotted this place and decided to give it a try.
Upon entering I was greet my the host. I stated I wanted a take out order and was giving a menu. My favorite Thai dish is Shrimp Pad Thai so I already knew what I wanted. I also decided on an appetizer, I decided to try something different so I order crab rolls with plum sauce.
After placing my order and while waiting I checked out the dining area, which had a nice & cozy kind of feel to it. This restaurant isn't big I would say nice and cozy lol. While waiting for my order the hostess offered me a glass of water, which I thought was cool. The kitchen is fairly small and you can actually see into the kitchen from the waiting area. The kitchen looked really clean as did the rest of the restaurant.
The prices are fair, my entree with about $9.00 and my app was $5.00. This restaurant is cash only.
The food smelled really good in the car so I couldn't wait to get home to eat.
The food didn't not disappoint, those crab rolls were soooooo good as was the Shrimp Pad Thai. I'm a fan and will definitely eat from here again whenever I'm in Brooklyn.
No lie, I order my food to go, sat down at a table, was provided with a glass of water and by the time I took my first sip, my order was ready. Granted, I ordered a simple chicken fried rice and the restaurant was practically empty but the food still came out very quickly. I asked if they were sure it was cooked to which the cashier/hostess replied yes. I thought to myself, this is too good to be true so there must be something wrong with it. To my pleasant surprise, there wasn't a thing wrong. After eating it at home, I accepted that it is possible to receive prompt service for food that taste pretty good.
Quality of food was solid. Dining experience was adequate despite new waitress being trained. Food tasted similar to, but not exactly like it has in previous years – likely a new cook. I have been going to Thai Cafe ever since it has opened in the 1990s and through the various owners. I went for the classic beef in oyster sauce and broccoli today paired with a thai iced tea. Beef was tender but oyster sauce lacked its signature saltiness. Thai iced tea was on point. I miss the old school flavor of the food and the artwork on the walls.
Thai Cafe is my new favorite go-to place for Thai comfort food. The menu is simple, the price reasonable, and the dishes well executed. You won't find fancy dishes and a date-worthy setting here, but you will find flavorful dishes and genuinely friendly service. I've been here 4x in the past 2 weeks, like a faithful addict. I'm totally hooked on their peanut curry, pad thai, and fried rice.
They have two levels of spiciness: mild and DAYUMNNN! Really, the second spice level is not for the faint of heart. I love it though, it works really well with the other flavors, instead of masking it. I would recommend this place to get your Thai comfort food fix if you happen to be in the area. Bring cash!
We headed to Thai Cafe last night for some takeout. They are cash only, but there are ATMs nearby. The prices of entrees are very reasonable; none are more than ten bucks. The two women working were extremely nice and served us water while we waited for our food to be ready, and for that we were grateful because we had just finished up a run. My boyfriend had been here before and always orders the curry, while I opted for classic Pad Thai with chicken.
When we got home, I busted into the grub. The portions are reasonable, and the food was still piping hot. In my experience, a lot of Thai places either do curry or noodles really well and not both. This is one of those places. The red curry was awesome–not as hot as we would have liked, even after requesting make it as hot as you can! The Pad Thai was just so so, I've definitely had better Pad Thai at other places.
I would go back to Thai Cafe but next time, I'd definitely get curry instead of noodles.
Mediocre thai food. I live so close by, so when I'm really craving thai, it's the easiest option. I've eaten a few different things from the pad see ew to the green curry to the duck basil. Everything is pretty disappointing. Rubbery chicken in the curry, too much fat in the duck basil, etc. The only thing I order from here now is the pad thai because you can only go so wrong with pad thai. Then again, I always order it spicy now, so it masks whatever's lacking to begin with. In greenpoint, we have slim pickings when it comes to thai food.
And it's cash only, which can be a pain. I thought about grabbing some thai on the way home from NYSC tonight and realized I only had a card… Had to just skip it and continued home to cook instead. Guess it's a good thing.
Haven't had anything but the Shrimp or Chicken Pad Thai from here–it is amazing!!
The only reservation that I have about this restaurant is that it has been closed by the health department. They also changed the portion size recently and upped the prices on the food. If I'm craving a good Pad Thai I come to this place.
My coworkers and I visit "Thai Cafe" pretty frequently for lunch.
The staff is pretty friendly, the menu is affordable, and the food is pretty spot-on, it's a win all around.
My vegetarian pal is a huge friend of their mock duck. I've never tried it, but it looks delicious whenever she orders it. The fried tofu is also pretty delicious. Don't pass on the veggie dumplings. Nice and crispy. The curries are also more than decent.
My only criticism is that they do not have lunch specials, but again, the decent menu prices do accommodate for that.
