Kona Grill

“They have lots of drink specials, as well, including margaritas, wine, some beers and other drinks and sake bombs!”

“The server was knowledgable and attentive, and the avocado egg rolls, ahi tuna entree, and the fresh fish of the day were excellent, fresh and tasty.”

“Regardless, for cheap drinks and apps I recommend the chicken and shrimp lettuce wraps as well as the flat bread pizzas.”

  1. Had a really great time at this place! The ambience is really nice and cool. Service was friendly. Food was really great. Enjoyed every bites of our food. Even my little picky eaters enjoyed their food so much and cleaned out their plates completely!

While we really enjoyed our food and drink, I'm actually really impressed by their kid's bento menus. They have generous portion, great menu selection, and plated nicely. My kids had a slider, with a side of pasta and fries and it came with a bunny shaped orange! Is that not fun or what??? I was excited to see their food! Lols – yes, doesn't take much to make me happy! Haha

For the adults we had yellow tail sashimi paired with a nice kick combination of cilantro and jalapeno. The 3 ingredients blended really well! It complemented each other. I order salad with grilled shrimp which was really good. And we shared plate of sashimis … All the food were fresh, delicious and flavorful. Definitely great place to hang!

  2. I've always had a good experience at Kona grill. They make good sushi rolls and regular food. I like that they have a good mixture of different types of cuisine (asian fusion mostly). What I love most is the happy hour (all day) on Sundays. The bloody mary is so delicious! I'm not normally fan of anything with tomato juice, but this had a good kick from the tobasco sauce.
I also love that this place has an entirely separate menu for vegans and vegetarians. Not a lot of places do that, so it was definitely a pleasant surprise. I ordered the vegetarian sushi roll and the oriental salad. This salad was surprisingly really good & made with simple ingredients. It had a good crunch from the ramen noodles, and the dressing was light and flavorful (it tasted like sesame + teriyaki).

On another note, they have a nice decor in the inside. The restaurant is spacious but I've seen it get crazy packed on weekends. I would definitely come back though.

  3. They have new chairs!!! Even more exciting is the new food we got these great lobster tuna flatbread honestly you must go here to try it!! During happy hour its abou $8.50 also the wines are $2 off not really worth it but pretty standard these days!! Overall I think it was really good the atmosphere is nice all windows and during good weather they open them all. They even have a nice firepit in the patio area 🙂

  4. Can't believe I haven't heard about this place and just learned about it last week since they opened a few years ago. Came for happy hour with some friends. Service was average and friendly. There's plenty of seating and their windows open up like NY and Boston restaurants which was very nice on a summer night.

    1. Flat bread BBQ chicken – Tiny bit spicy but packed with flavor and no lack of topping. I enjoyed this dish immensely.

    2. Spinach artichoke dip – First spinach dip I've had with actual leaves of spinach that was not chopped up. The dip was very liquidy and felt it could be thicker. Good nonetheless.

    3. Dumplings – Filled with chicken that was dry. I'll give this 2.5/5 and I've easily had better anywhere else.

    4. Margerita – Was a bit pricy but they made it strong and was well worth it. Tangy and tasty!

Overall, I'll come back for happy hour at night for a change up from Applebees and others.

  5. I've been here for happy hour at night a couple of times. I like how there's an area where the windows open up so you can sit in the breeze. Some of the food is mediocre, though to be fair I haven't tried many things. The setting is pretty nice and relaxed, and it's a good place just to get together with friends.

  6. When visiting my boyfriend while he was training in the middle of nowhere, NJ. We landed on this place for dinner. We had been shopping in the nearby mall and wanted something that wasn't too out there and also wasn't fast food. What we got was Kona Grill. Now I am not Hawaiian by any stretch of the means, so I thought everything was pretty on point! My boyfriend is part Hawaiian, so many of the menu items he didn't think were very authentic tasting. I don't think Kona Grill advertises that they are an authentic Hawaiian restaurant, but I can see how someone from the Islands would not feel so at home here. Although they had a wait for outside seating, the staff set us up at the bar to wait out our time (which was all of like 15 min). They had delicious drinks and great happy hour prices. The jams were on point the whole two hours we were there. We got the potstickers to start. I ordered the jambalaya for my entree and my boyfriend ordered the fish of the day. I think the jambalaya won in terms of best dinner. It was on the spicy side though, so if you don't like spicy I wouldn't recommend!

There is a closer location to us at home, I would be interested in seeing if everything is pretty similar in service and taste of food!

    Definitely will try again!

  7. Came here on a Saturday night for dinner. It was pretty easy to make a reservation here at the last minute. The restaurant is very expansive.  You first notice the fish tank and  bellagio-like colorful decor when you walk in. We sat in a booth on the left side of the restaurant. Our waitress was friendly and attentive.

My husband got two glasses of wine, and I was in a cocktail mood, as per usual. I was pretty disappointed with my drinks. I got the coconut mojito and red wine sangria.  Both drinks were extremely weak. I'm a lightweight, and I drank them on an empty stomach and felt nothing.  Why am I paying all this money for what is essentially a mocktail? They both tasted very watered down, especially the sangria. The sangria really just tasted like a red wine spritzer with a few pieces of fruit thrown it. It was super fizzy and transparent  because it was 90 percent seltzer.

Luckily,  things started to look up when the food arrived. For apps, we shared the  salmon wasabi sashimi and tuna wonton crisps. We asked for our lobster mac and cheese to be brought out later as our entrée, but everything was brought out at the same time. Our food came out very fast.  You can tell this place runs like a well oiled machine. We loved the salmon sashimi.  It was super fresh and had a nice, but not overpowering, wasabi flavor. The tuna wasabi crisps were just okay.  The tuna on them was a little thin and this app was a little bland tasting.  We were impressed with the lobster mac and cheese. They give you a lot of large pieces of lobster for $17. A lot of places skimp on that and then charge and arm and a leg. The cheese sauce was a little too thin, and they forgot to put panko bread crumbs on, but overall we were very happy with this dish. We were still a little hungry, so we decided to share the checkerboard roll. We both really liked the roll, but it was a little on the pricy side. All of their rolls were overpriced, but I kind of get it. Yeah, you can get comparable special rolls for 4 dollars less at a hole in the wall, but you're paying a premium for the atmosphere.

Our check was a little over $100, which wasn't too bad. Not sure if we'll become regulars at Kona, but we had a pretty decent experience and think it's worth visiting if you've never been.

  8. My first time visiting Kona Grill and I had a great experience.  We came for my mom's birthday and we had a party of 6 and the waitress/hostess/waiting staff was great.  They were very friendly and took care of us. We shared a number of dishes, starting with the Margarita flatbread as well as the shrimp tempura to start, and then ordered the lemon Parmesan pasta, the basil linguine, the kona chopped salad as well as a spider roll and the lobster/tuna roll as well.  The pastas had a little more oil than I like but they had good flavor and the flatbread and the shrimp tempura were probably the best dishes.

I would come back to try some other dishes.
