The pudding is amazing. Shot size ($3) is maybe too little, and small is too much ($5), but better err on the safe side. The schmapple is like a delicious apple pie turned into a bread pudding that is perfectly creamy with delicious fresh apples, and walnuts adding the perfect crunch. Tough to choose between the puddings, I might do a few shot-sizes next time
I finally went back awhile ago and did get the puddings, which were indeed much better than the cupcakes. I highly recommend the appropriately named "Awesome", which consists of Peanut Butter Pudding, Chocolate Pudding and Peanut Butter Cookies. The Small ($5) is more than enough, so you can even get the "Shot" size for $3 if you just want a few bites.
I still say the cupcakes look a lot better than they taste though. But definitely still come here to at least try the puddings.
The shop is really cute with all the silly but fun decor and words. They mainly sell all flavors of pudding and cupcakes.
Puddings have various sizes to choose from. And the $5 size can be filled with 2 dif flavors so you won't be in a dilemma there!!! I loved the coffee flavor and think the PB one is a bit too salty.
The staff was super nice and you can use credit card, just show your ID ; )
I finally stopped by Sugar Sweet Sunshine! The bakery has limited seating but is very cute nonetheless. I tried the Red Velvet cupcake, which was very light and moist, particularly in the frosting. I love how it wasn't overly sweet like most cupcakes frostings.
Banana. Pudding.
I don't really care about cupcakes. Or cakes of any kind, really. Seriously…we had pie at our wedding, like champions. So I can't really speak to whether or not you should get the cupcakes, or which cupcakes you should get.
All I know is that when any of my friends want to stop in here for a cupcake, I just get myself a huge portion of absurdly delicious banana pudding and laugh all the way to fat camp.
Walking in this place I immediately noticed cushions on the chairs. It can be said, almost as a fact, that a spot with cushions has great customer service – this place did not disappoint.
Service was great, super friendly and all that. But what really gave this place a 5/5 was the pudding. I ordered a large with anything they suggest. I was given apple and banana pudding in a cup.
Super good stuff, really hit the spot. Creamy, and it's not just a goop either, it's filled with sliced Apple, nuts, cake, banana.
Would recommend for any one who wants something light and sweet.
Awesome little bakery shop. Came here during the fall when pumpkins were in season! Grabbed a pumpkin cupcake which was very delicious! The decor was very homey and bright. There are seats but limited.
This is one of my favorite bakeries in Manhattan. They actually make my fave cupcakes too because they're a good size (I don't need cupcakes the size of my head), taste homemade which is nice when the craving strikes and you're not home to make your own, the ambience here is super cute and the people who work here are friendly AF.
Over the years (pre-Yelp cuz it's easily been 10+ trips here) I've brought all my friends (and family!) here and introduced several people to the simple goodness of a delicious, no-frills $2 cupcake. Plus Sugar Sweet Sunshine has been in the cupcake game longer before cupcakes because über trendy, plus isn't their name fun to say?! IT'S ALSO FUN TO TYPE.
My fave cupcakes are the Bob, Sexy Red Velvet and their "Black and White it can be right", although I'm unsure if they kept those names…I also once had a chocolate chip cupcake here with a vanilla mousse frosting, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't one of their mainstay cupcake flavors.
The pudding here is also another great reason to come here. I don't even like pudding much, but their peanut butter pudding is to die for. With the advent of crazy cupcake spots that use bells and whistles I can see why someone wouldn't be thrilled with this place, but that's cool – that means more cupcakes for me :).
