“Would def go try it if you haven't.
The boss lady is kinda grumpy but you usually only deal w the waiters so it doesn't matter.”

Came here last Saturday with my mom for lunch.. Wow. What an interesting experience! Located on the corner of Prince Street, on the same block as Nan Xiang Dumpling. As packed as Nan Xiang is, and there's frequently a line out the door for lunch/dinner, this Vietnamese restaurant is quite empty. Inside, standard wood tables and seats. Boring decor.
We ordered a large beef Pho to share, a plate of pork and an order of Shrimp summer rolls. We didn't have to wait long for food..maybe 15mins after we ordered, everything rolled outta the kitchen. The food was actually not bad. Shrimp summer rolls were HUGE. The plate of pork, came with a plate of lettuce wrap and rice vermicelli and vegetable filling which we were suppose to wrap together and eat like a roll. The pork had good flavor and wasn't dry. The beef Pho was just your standard bowl of noodles and broth laden with MSG.
Now what was interesting about the meal?? LOL As we were eating..a table near us with 2 white guys..they finished their meal, paid and left. The waitress took the money and went into a room in the back near the kitchens. After about 2 minutes, a woman shouting and cursing in Chinese could be heard from inside the room! O_o And it was clearly one person screaming and cursing at someone else, cuz there was just this one angry voice. I could understand some words along the lines of "the bills are fake", "idiot", "you should go home".. And this tirade of verbal abuse continued for a good 10 minutes.. Other patrons were shocked as well..haha Soon, a very angry looking woman stormed out of the room..I assumed she was the owner or manager..haha
All in all, a satisfying lunch. Decent food. Though that manager/owner needs to be more professional. If you're gonna go all b!tch-mode on your staff, close the damn door! LOL
Try the pork chop, spring rolls & pineapple fried rice. Bring cash!
The endless arrays of quality Asian food in Flushing's downtown never cease to amaze me. From regional Chinese specialities to authentic Korean spots, there is plenty to appreciate – unless it's Vietnamese cuisine. For Pho Vietnamese Restaurant, one of the many "all in one" establishments that specialize in all things Vietnamese, the story doesn't have a happy ending.
It's been my experience that one doesn't go to a pho restaurant for banh mi and banh mi shops are less likely to specialize in a quality bowl of pho. For my chino brethren, it's the equivalent of looking for a delicious char siu bao in a place that specializes in wonton mein. Considering that Pho Vietnamese Restaurant (known to the locals as "Yue Nan Xiao Guan") makes neither well, I'll focus on other common dishes.
I think goi cuon (summer rolls) is a gamble at most places and PVR is of no exception. It's somewhat bland and the shrimp pieces aren't sliced properly, prompting a chunky handroll that needs to be drowned in the peanut hoisin sauce to be edible. Com chien (rice) dishes will vary, but the bo luc lac (marinated beef cubes) are the safest bet. For cha gio (spring roll) lovers, there is plenty of crisp in PVR's version, just little filling. I would steer clear of most of the bun (noodle) dishes entirely and the same goes for the salads.
It's not all terrible. The service is usually friendly and the prices are adequate. There are far worse Vietnamese spots just down the road and PVR has done a good job of cruising below the radar, while most folks venture to the Kissena spots. If you keep your expectations fairly low, PVR might just come through for you. Otherwise, heed my warning and beware of the blandness.
With Nan Xiang Xiao Long Bao and the neighboring restaurants attracting most of the lines and large crowds, Pho Vietnamese quietly sits adjacent to these restaurants. If you're tired of Pho Bang and the like, forget the crowds and go to Pho Vietnamese Restaurant which is a perfect alternative that will please most people's cravings for Vietnamese.
Their #1 Large Beef Noodle Soup ($7.50) is a solid choice. Filled with a very clean yet flavorful broth, tendons, onions, a good portion of bouncy noodles, scallions and several slices of beef cooked so there is only a slight notice of pinkness (for those looking for the most tender slices of beef, ask to have the beef served raw on the side). Then come the sides of bean sprouts, cilantro, raw jalapeno slices, and lime wedges. Be sure to put a little of each in to your liking, squeeze some of their homemade chili sauce (or Sriracha) and hoisin sauce to give it a more complex flavor. It's satisfying and hearty in its own right, with most people leaving full and satisfied. My only gripe about this dish is that they don't serve it with Thai basil!
The Fried Spring Rolls are also a nice appetizer (5 served in a dish) that can be shared. They are perfectly fried without all that greasiness and ingredients fresh. Be sure to wrap it up in the lettuce to give it a refreshing aspect and an added crunchy texture. Other solid dishes are their Grilled Pork Chops and beef cubes.
One extra note: Credit cards are not accepted so be sure to bring cash!
Day traced back to 2013. My first time to flushing. We had dinner here. The pho was ok. Especially I like the peanuts sauce.
The table service was ok. Boss and his wife were reading newspaper. Two waiters were playing with their phones. Nobody cared when you walked into.
Came here with my cousin and his friends for dinner. I was pretty hungry and big bowl pho hit the spot.
Nothing really stood out to me.
I'd come back here although there's plenty of other restaurants around here to dine at.
Apparently, this is one of the better places to get Pho in Flushing…OR SO I'VE HEARD! My friend swears by this, but I beg to differ. Maybe I've been spoiled by Chinatown's Pho? I had high expectations for this place and the reviews were ok. I've come here a few times and have NEVER finished more than half of my #1. It's something about the meat that turns me off. I'm not sure if it's the cut or the flavor of the meat that comes with the noodles, but something about it is def off. I will say however that the broth is superb! One of the best broths I've had. If only I could get past the meat…. The crispy viet spring rolls are a must order in my book. The shell of it is similar to dim sum spring rolls, which for me is different from most viet restaurants. Can't say I love it, but it is unusual and dipping it in the fish sauce gets it soggy pretty quickly so DO NOT let it soak in there (I usually do). My friend usually orders the beef cubes or tomato and beef over white rice. I've tried both and they're tasty, but nothing special. Maybe on my next visit, I'll give the noodles with the broth a try with another type of meat…grilled chicken/porkchop perhaps?
I really wanted to like this place more but I'm just so spoiled with so much good Vietnamese food options that this place is just ehhh.
Cold Vietnamese salad with pork and spring rolls had the right flavors but the spring rolls resembled Chinese Take Out fried spring rolls with the super thick breading wrapper. Not exactly something I think is desirable especially in Flushing. Curries were really good and hearty. Rice dishes are pretty standard and good. Priced well.
Come here for the pho. They do that well.
