Love the convenience and although I am no sushi expert I am a salad snob. Would it hurt to give us something more than a lump of iceberg lettuce and ONE slice of cucumber. Had the sweet potato roll nice change of pace.
This sushi just isn't fresh. It is also too fishy. They do have good lunch deals (2 rolls for $8 plus soup and salad) but the sushi was not satisfying at all.
We decided to Try Sushi Ku and see how it compared to Wasabi Bistro in Boonton. I'd say both places are comparable whether your dining in or out. The space is similar and the quality of the food is comparable. The Pork Gyoza at Sushi Ku was probably a little bit biggier and beefier so I'd give that one to Suski Ku. As far as the rolls go I don't think I'd be able to tell one from the other place. Not sure how I'll make my determination of where to eat in the future, both offer off street parking and are just as far from Montville. Tough call…
This is a decent spot for a hometown dinner. I love that it's BYOB, and we ordered the sushi boat which was awesome. Not the greatest sushi but not terrible either. I will return.
I came here with my daughter last night for some good Japanese food that was also close to home. As she doesn't quite know what she wants, I order a bunch of things for her to try: Tuna collar, Bento Box A, and Butterfly sushi roll.
The tuna collar is large and good for the price. However, it was not seasoned. It's just grilled then served with a ponzu sauce. The flesh is flaky and has a grilled flavor.
The miso soup that comes with the Bento box was delicious. It had seaweed and soft tofu, but the tofu pieces were so small; like confetti. The presentation for the bento box was nice. It came with shrimp tempura (including sweet potato, eggplant, and taro), chicken teriyaki, shao mai, California rolls, seaweed salad, and fruit. The breading on the tempura was crispy and not oily. However, the shrimp was very tough and thin like a pencil. The vegetable tempura was good. The chicken teriyaki was below average. It is served on top of grilled vegetables. The chicken was very tough and dry, and was not even seasoned, albeit it had the teriyaki sauce. Most places I've been to, they grill the chicken and then simmer in the sauce, so that the chicken absorbs the flavor. Here, it seems as if the chicken is boiled (not steamed) then doused with sauce – the sauce was also slimy (too much starch). I'm not a big fan of the Japanese shao mai, and it's nothing like the Chinese version. I don't know why they bother including it. The california roll is an uramaki (inside-out) with tobiko on the outside and avocado and fake crab on the inside.
The butterfly roll is another uramaki roll with a combination of spicy tuna, salmon, avocado, and tobiko. Presentation was nice and the roll was delicious.
Service was so so; not very attentive and not pleasant. Smile! That's part of your tip!
The fish for the sushi looks fresh and the presentation of the rolls were nice. I rated this place 2 stars because of their poor execution of their hot foods and service. I may come back but only for their sushi.
great people, great food, great experience. byob sushi with a cozy feel to it and a staff that makes you feel comfortable. their specials are absolutely amazing. Even on Weekends when it seems pretty packed I've been seated almost immediately. overall great place and always please when you are craving amazing and interesting sushi.
