Plump Dumpling

plump dumpling is sketchy. when my best friend and i came here for the first time, i ordered bubble tea because i was craving it and this place seemed to have it. however, the bubble tea was a huge miss – the tapioca was hard to chew, and the milk tea just tasted weird in general. if you can't make good bubble tea, then i generally am not a fan of your establishment, but my friend and i decided to give plump dumpling another try – this time, she was hungry, so she ordered the sesame chicken. she said the chicken tasted way too soft/tender for chicken and that she suspected it was actually a different meat. ew. not stepping foot in here ever again.
the dumplings are exactly what the name says. PLUMP ordered delivery for lunch and got the dumplings with curry sauce and the side of noodles. It was pretty good. Not amazing and not the best dumplings I've ever had but for the price and for lunch it will does just fine! The dumplings are huge!
I think this was the second time here.
Well, since my taste buds have somewhat developed (thanks to my "foodie husband") I'd say this place is just "okay". It seems like they make most of their money through takeout since they have a pretty affordable takeout menu. If you're concerned about ambiance of the place: the dining room is pretty minimal when it comes to decoration or anything fancy. I think it's a bit pricey for the quality of food they give. I had the Vermicelli noodles with beef. My husband had a papaya Salad. It was really a small portion so that dissapointed him and he said the taste was too sweet = too Americanized. Well…I guess their general clientele likes Americanized?
This place is super sketch and NOT GOOD!
They have the strangest people actually sitting in the restaurant. They're not particularly clean and it looks like the last update was from 20 years ago.
That wouldn't be the issue but then they go and make me dislike regular vietnamese food that I usually eat on the regular. Their summer roll is a cold dead version of the usual with a bland watery peanut sauce and possibly old boiled shrimp slices, cold rice noodles that are hard, and iceberg lettuce! What? No.
The other thing I had here was not memorable. I was craving summer rolls again and I tried this again for a 2nd time. I'm reminding myself why I shouldn't have tried it AGAIN.
No flavor. No quality. No way!
This is awesome inexpensive Chinese food! I don't know why everyone is giving it such a hard time… Their dumplings are incredible, wonderful texture and so tasty. The chicken dumplings and the veggie dumplings are my favorite. The chicken and broccoli, and lo mein are also very well done. I have been going to this place for years and am always happy with my meal.
I recommend checking it out for takeout or a casual dinner!
This place is extremely mediocre.
Ordered pork chive dumplings via Seamless. The dumplings were SO dry. The filling was flavorless and did not contain chives. It was literally a dry lump of meat. I ended up just mostly eating the skin.
Also, the only reason I ordered from here was cause they had bubble tea delivery, but the bubble tea is thick and heavily powdered as well.
Would not recommend.
*I got delivery from them- did not go to actual restaurant*
Good inexpensive dinner! I was craving dumplings (specifically Vanessa's Dumplings) but boo they don't deliver to my area… found this place off Seamless. I mean, they have dumpling in their name, so why not give it a try?
30 minutes later, I'm ripping through the bag. I got the $7.35 Dinner Special (Mixed Veggies with Beef)- comes with a soup (wonton soup for me, but they have the standard egg drop soup, hot/sour soup) and choice of rice (brown, white, or fried- fried for me!) I also got an order of steamed pork dumplings (6 plump ones for $4.95)
Pretty solid stuff. My dinner special was a basic stirfry, not that intensely greasy. The dumplings were heavy on the skin, but were nice and juicy.
Really nothing special, but if you want a good cheap tasty dinner, this is the place.
Sigh. I knew the day I'd have to write my first one star review would come. And here it is.
My sister and I stopped into Plump Dumpling after shopping at Buffalo Exchange down the street. We didn't have much time to mull over choices of where to eat, so we passed by for a quick bite before heading home to good ol' NJ.
We ordered two bubble teas, a soup and some veggie dumplings with broccoli. My bubble tea tasted fine, but my sister got hers with milk and something tasted WAY off about it. When we asked the server if she could swap it out for another drink, the reply was "umm..I don't think so." K.
At this point we checked the reviews. Yikes, 2 1/2 stars? We knew we had made a mistake, but there was no turning back at this point. A lesson was learned that day: never eat somewhere without checking the yelp reviews first!
After a few minutes the veggie dumplings and side of broccoli came out. The dumplings definitely lived up to their "plump" reputation. They were pretty much all dough with a little bit of soggy vegetable filling. I had one bite and decided to forego all that mess til my soup arrived. I also tried a bite of the broccoli which tasted like cheap Chinese food broccoli. Not to mention it was swimming in grease. Yuck.
The tofu and vegetable soup I got for $8 was actually not bad. It had a good flavor and the veggies seemed fresh, I enjoyed it. That is, until I had a raging stomach ache that felt like knives piercing my intestinal tract 6 hours later. (All I ate beforehand was a Kind bar, all I ate after was bread and butter. Seems to me the soup was the culprit.)
Like others have mentioned, this place has a definite shady feel. The employees are not amiable whatsoever and the ambiance is a step below mediocre. This could be overlooked if the food was halfway decent, but Plump Dumpling struck out in that field too.
Obviously I would not recommend this sad excuse for a Vietnamese restaurant. Take your business elsewhere or you could end up regretting it.
