  1. I just had lunch here with 1 friend. She ordered the pad thai lunch special while I ordered the Kah-Hak (chicken soup) lunch special. Both come with an appetizer which instantly appears which confirms the expected prepared serving format. It's good, the fried dumpling tastes vegetarian & the salad is good, even if too heavy on the peanut sauce but that's just me. The soup itself however is very unimpressive salty water with too few sprouts, noodles, and fish cakes. It's a great location and service but the food is too thin and demotivating, though for the price, it's a great value thus the rating. It's alright in the end, hopefully patrons come more to allow them to up their ante.

  2. Been here a few times are lunch and dinner. This place is always so packed during lunch time!

This time I got the lunch specials, cashew nuts and chicken that came with white rice. My friend got the beef fried rice. We also got the calamari and curry duck. It came with a salad that comes with peanut sauce and one piece of dumpling. It was actually really good! Great combination! I wanted to try something different so I got the cashew nuts. It was a disappointment. The fried rice was okay. The cashew nuts and chicken was a bit plain, no taste. It looked like a vegan food. The chicken was so dry. I didn't really enjoy it. The curry duck wasn't great either. The duck taste like chicken because it was so drenched in curry sauce, it had no duck taste. It came with white rice. The best was probably the calamari but you can never go wrong with calamari!

Previous times, I order the noodle soups. I remember that it was pretty amazing however this time I left with disappointment.

Maybe I'll go back next time to check out other dishes.

Also, they really rushed us to order and gave us the bill when we didn't ask for it. My friend and I were talking and they asked if we were done. We weren't done, we were just talking. There were still a few tables that were empty too. I don't know why they had to rush us.

  3. The food here was okay. Service was very good and attentive. I got a tofu pad see ew and the portion size was good. It tasted fine but there is a lot of Thai food competition in the area so it is hard to say this was stellar or anything.

However it was not bad either, just average. Prices are pretty standard for Thai food in the city. My tofu and vegetable pad see ew (considered as 2 separate additions) was $11.95. It would be $10.95 if it was just "one" addition. I think the more expensive meats bring up the price more.

In warmer weather they open up the front window so you get this window/counter seating which looks pretty nice!

With tons of other Thai food in the area, I would probably try the rest first before returning to Zoob Zib.

  4. There is a plethora, a veritable sea of inexpensive Thai restaurants on 9th Ave.  There are Thai restaurants practically on top of other Thai restaurants, actually.  Zoob Zib is one of those places.  I go there often as it is convenient when I am in the area.

They get my business vs. all of the others in the area is that the place is reliable.  I usually go with a small group and can quickly get a seat for an early dinner.  The service is usually pretty quick to seat as well as get drinks / food etc.  They also don't roll their eyes when you ask for a bunch of separate checks.  They just keep it moving.  I have been there many times in the past few months with groups and everyone likes the food and service.

I usually get the lemongrass chicken.  It is tasty, grilled chicken with some kind lemongrass sauce on top. It is served with sticky rice served in a plastic bag.  Kind of strange, but it works.  It also comes with a little salad of some kind of fruit that has a dressing that with some peanuts and a serious zing to it.  This dish is always solid.

  5. Been going here for years and it taste like the Tom Ka chicken soup got better! Spring rolls are good and I did the Pad Thai this time which was good but I usually do some sort of curry! Love this place, and iced tea or coffee, I'll be back for 2nds!

  6. Went here for some Thai with two other friends.

Entrees were about 14-15 dollars per dish for your usual Thai dishes such as Pad Thai and Pad See Ew dependent on the protein that you order. The portions were just a tad less than what usually gets me full. Maybe I just like to eat/eat too much or maybe their portions should be more generous 😉

Drinks such as Thai Ice tea was about 4 bucks. Happy Hour was a hit with my friends who enjoyed it very much.

Overall, a tad expensive for what you order after tax and tip. Nothing extremely about the place but it is convenient to Penn Station which is why we chose it in the first place.

  7. This is a place I'll usually stop at for lunch if I'm at a convention at the Javits Center because it's a relatively short walk there and they have pretty good lunch specials. To make a lot of them vegan or vegetarian you can order them with tofu, vegetables or mock duck (seitan). Their mock duck is really crispy and the taste and texture are very close to that of real meat. When one of my vegetarian friends ordered pad thai with vegetables our server even made sure to ask if he was ok with it being made with egg. I've liked everything I've had from them, though I've never been able to finish. The portions are larger than they initially appear. The service has also been good, and we've never had to wait for a table. Normally we'll see other con-goers having lunch too when we've went. The prices are also reasonable for the amount and quality of food you get, coupled with the restaurant being in Manhattan.

The only thing I'm disappointed with it that it looks like they've changed their menu since last year and don't have a vegetarian noodle soup anymore. There was one they had on their menu around this time last year that could easily be veganized by ordering it without egg. All of the noodle soups on their menu now have some kind of meat or fish in them. I really hope they'll bring at least one veggie noodle soup option back soon.

  8. Came here for lunch today with a coworker since we had time to kill. We both ordered a Thai iced tea, that didn't come mixed. We also had entrees from the lunch menu starting at 8.95$ pp. Not a bad deal..since the entree comes with salad and a fried gyoza. The salad was wet. The gyoza was stone cold and inedible.

I had the pad see ew with tofu in soy bean sauce. The tofu skin was dry and extremely salty. The flat noodles had a good chew and flavor along with the other green vegetable. The egg was overcooked.

My coworker had the seafood noodle soup with mild spice, but there was no flavor. The noodles were chewy enough and lots of fish balls, squid and shrimp. Lacked flavor.

Overall, i probably would not recommend unless you are time crunched. Food lacked flavor.
