Simply Vietnamese is my favorite spot for Vietnamese food. It's like 20 minutes from my house but I can't resist. In fact I once drove home early from a night in NY just to come here.
Things to definitely try are the Pho (my favorite), Lemongrass Soup, and the Spicy Beef. The Pho is incredible; it has a complex flavor that is perfectly balanced.
Based on just their pho and bahn mi…. I give this 2/5. Their bahn mi was delicious and I would eat it again, but their pho was my least favorite of all the places I've tried in PA and NJ… I can't pinpoint what makes their broth different. Maybe too much star anise? I don't know… and I'm sure everyone has their own preference but 3 others agreed that it wasn't their favorite. I can't speak for their other dishes. The restaurant itself is clean and nice.
The Pho was good. The satay was also fine.
The portions are really huge.
After having a horrible experience at the last Vietnamese place I went to, I was super excited to try Simply Vietnamese because I've had my eye on it for a while. My only disappointment was not being able to dine in as I was pressed for time.
I ordered the coconut milk soup with tofu and vegetables to go. Even though I only got takeout, the service was great. I was asked if I wanted any water or tea while I waited. I listened as a server picked up the phone and said, "no, this is a Vietnamese restaurant". He joked with me about how the person on the other end of the line was inquiring about custom aligator shoes. Small gestures such as that make me feel so welcomed.
The interior of the restaurant is really nice. It has a warm and romantic feeling, the ambiance reminded me of a coffeehouse because it felt so comfortable and homey.
To top everything off, the food was freakin awesome. The soup was flavorful and the veggies were super fresh. The noodles and beansprouts were packed separately, you can add them as you eat so they don't get soggy. My tummy was very happy with me that day.
I'm so glad I finally got to try Simply Vietnamese, it greatly surpassed my expectations. I can't wait to go back for a sit-down meal 🙂
Good ole Vietnamese food that is ALMOST as good as my momma's homemade Viet food! I recommend the "Banh Mi Sliders" for apps, "Pho Ga" for entree, and Cafe Sua Da (Vietnamese iced coffee) for dessert. There's a few outdoor tables for when the weather is nice. As a Vietnamese person, I am pleased with the authenticity of the food and have came back here several times with friends to show them what my people's food taste like 😉
So my family and I stopped by here after seeing the reviews, and I have to say compared to the reviews it was okay. Maybe my expectations were too high, but it was okay, their broth was good but compared to Bistro Du Saigon, which also another authentic Viet-Pho place, it was just average. I also ordered the garlic noodle dish and it was a bit too saucy and salty for my taste, my kids on the other hand completely enjoyed it. The fried spring rolls were definitely different and tasty, and I would definitely recommend that as one of the appetizers at this place.
This place is definitely good for kids, not only cuz they have kid friendly cups, but because they have chips and sauce to keep the kids distracted before the food is ordered and served.
Overall, I would go if I was in the area, but it would not be something that I would be craving normally.
Good, fresh food, but very overpriced and small portions. Also, this location (and the previous one in Englewood) is small and usually very crowded…not a terribly inviting space. Service is slow and lackluster as well. As a result we only get take out from Simply Vietnamese and are thrilled to go to other cities to patronize better Vietnamese options. I think Simply Vietnamese is ruling the roost around here due to lack of competition.
The food here is not THAT bad… but mediocre food paired with horrendous service is definitely a no-no.
We ordered the house noodles with chicken. Please don't get this – it was oily and way too salty. When we complained, rather than apologizing, our waiter kept on saying that's how it's normally made. Thankfully, he gave us a new dish.
The pho here is OK. The beef is thicker than usual, but it was fine. The broth was on the sweeter side… Not my favorite. We got the spicy lemongrass soup – this was better than the other two noodle dishes we had, but nothing special. The coconut and spicy flavor was good but again, it was too oily.
Throughout the entire meal, we REALLY struggled with the service here. We were here on a Sunday afternoon so it was pretty busy but they never came to refill our water or tea. Every time we needed something, we constantly had to wave and flag down anyone who was walking by. Not once did our waiter stop at our table on his own.
There really aren't many pho places in this area, so I would be willing to try here again because I've heard the duck noodle soup is really good here. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone because it's just MEH all around. However, if you're REALLY craving pho and you have no other options, it can still satisfy your craving. 3/3 stars.
