Note Thai

“Note Thai is a very reliable local take out/delivery Thai place near the Montrose L stop.”

“(Pssst…it's better than Cheers.)”

“And, their coconut curry sauce is both very nicely pulled off and ample enough to assist in enriching other foods including spinach and lentils later on.”

  1. Having so many options for take out is great in this area. But when you take a chance with a take out place you have never heard of can be a huge risk.
I received my order and was ready to give it 4 stars on smells and looks alone. But then i dug in.
My boyfriend ordered the chicken fried rice which he loved. But thats the only thing we ordered that was well received.
I ordered the mock duck thai basil stir fry as well as a Chicken Satay salad. The Chicken satay salad which we shared would have been good had they not cooked the chicken way beyond the desired temperature. It was a thick slab of chicken breast overcooked to the point that half of it was crunchy. The other half was a choking hazard. We drenched it in the peanut sauce (which i have to say was tasty) but the dish was beyond salvation. What a waste of chicken.
My mock duck was cooked properly and I can say that I do in fact like mock duck. But their stir fry, while chock full of good vegetables, was swimming in a watery stir fry sauce. This was a huge let down.
Based on the fact that they obliterated the chicken breast, i think the chef who prepared my chicken might have either been a vegetarian or someone who had never cooked chicken in their entire life.

  2. Waffle-cut carrots. These vegetables – omnipresent in Note's uninspired food – symbolize everything that is wrong with this Thai takeout restaurant. They're prepackaged, bland and work against the dishes Note in trying to prepare.

Bushwick Avenue certainly needs a Thai restaurant. It's the only one for a mile in each direction, and I so wanted to make it a regular stop. I came back four times even after a mediocre first visit. The pad thai is greasy, with overcooked noodles that dissolve into a glutinous paste and a mass of bruised vegetables. Pad see ew is more of the same, and the supposedly spicy ra cha is disappointingly bland.

I surrendered after a chicken satay so dry I had to dip the individual pieces in the sauce covering other tenders. I've moved on to Pagoda, a real restaurant with noodle dishes the same price as this dump. (They also don't have problems with the Health Department.)

On one of the two occasions I ate in, the occupant of the restaurant's sole table was listening to his iPod while I ordered at the counter. A teenager strolled by, palmed his iPod and took off at full sprint into the nearby projects. The poor hipster went in pursuit, all while Note's owners yelled, "Watch out! He has friends back in there!"

High comedy sure, but not the stuff of a good restaurant experience.

  3. As far as I'm concerned, this is top-notch Thai. And that's coming from a [self-proclaimed] Thaiholic (no copyright infringement intended) and an Elite Yelper (refer to badge, pls).

I don't understand why Note Thai doesn't have a higher average.

Were Note Thai not in my neighborhood, it's unlikely I'd have ever sought it out, which is a shame. Excellent curry–I'm slurping up their peanut curry as we speak. Medium amount of spice, the way I like it. Perfection.

Price is right, employees are always friendly.

    Order from here right away.

  4. UPDATED as of 4/15/2016:  The curry has gotten watery over the past few months.  Not sure why.  Still has great flavor, but it is more soupy than desired.  Hoping this will change back to being a little thicker soon…

  5. Ok just finished eating. Not too bad. Its decent. I had the chicken pinapple fried rice. Did not have a lot of pinapples and chicken. My coworker ordered the duck and he said it coukd have been better but was tasty. delivery time was quick!

  6. The food here is decent.  I used to always order from here because it was the only Thai place that delivered to my apartment.  It fulfills that craving for Thai.  Most of the dishes are fairly flavorful and come in good sized portions.  The delivery is also fast.

Do not order the noodle soup dishes.  All of my noodles were broken and soggy.
