  1. Was so excited to have a bo ky in Brooklyn after trying their Chinatown branch for the first time a month ago, unfortunately this place is so humid it ruined my experience. I just wanted to make a note that this is a cash only place so make a trip at the bank before you come. When I went to their Chinatown location I fell in love with their soup base for the beef noodle unfortunately I didn't get the same spark here while eating at the eight ave joint… Could have been I was too busy wiping sweat to really concentrate on my food. I must say they have super fast service and I am still deciding whether it is a good thing or a bad thing, I came sat down ordered and got my food in less than one minute! Note to owner if you aren't going to open ac for your patrons at least serve ice water (room temp water does not help with the humidity) I couldn't tell whether I had to tip here or not but I left tips anyways… Loved their Chinatown joint but sadly I Probably wouldn't be back..

The beef noodle here is okay, I guess the environment really plays an important part in your dine in experience

  2. Exciting news!! Bo Ky has expanded to Brooklyn with their new outpost: Mr. Bo Ky! Open for about a month now, this location currently offers a limited menu (see my pics for menu). Don't worry, they have their signature country duck and noodle soups. 🙂

I'm so glad they've replaced that mediocre pho joint with Mr. Bo Ky! The place is still transitioning, with much of the old decor still up (like the giant pho bowl on the wall and the coffee sign). Right now it's a little ghetto because they serve everything in plastic bowls and plates. They also don't have paper, take out menus (oh, I hope they'll start delivering by winter!).

Ducks are $11 for half and $22 for whole.

  3. I'm sure I'm not the only that was very excited to see Bo Ky open up in Brooklyn and especially replacing the mediocre Pho place that was once there. I went in here for lunch one afternoon and left disappointed.

I was craving the country duck but couldn't eat the whole half and a noodle soup by myself so I went with duck egg noodle soup. The soup base was decent, everything else was not. The country duck was tender but in a nasty overcooked kind of way. Previously, I looked at the duck hanging on the window and it seemed a bit light in color and not appetizing but don't judge a book by its cover, right? Wrong this time. The duck was pretty bland and could not compare. It could've been I just received a bad piece from a bad duck, benefit of the doubt. I was there quite early so how long could the duck been sitting there for it to be so tasteless. Honestly, it tasted like the duck has been cooked then reboiled into a pot of plain water. That's the best way I can describe it. I don't think this is harsh, Bo Ky just usually does not disappoint. The noodle quality was disappointing too. The noodles were not blanched correctly and not stirred while boiling. It was so difficult to loosen the noodles with my chopsticks. I ended up just picking up the ball of noodles and just taking a bite into it. I was hungry but was so not into how I had to eat these noodles.

The service was disgusting. The lady in the front gave me such an attitude. She was packing my stuff to go so I just kindly told her that it's for here. She said "WHY DIDNT YOU SAY SO?" .. Woah, I'm sorry. I came here to relax and enjoy my lunch. I didn't know I had to do your job for you. She shot me a nasty look and pointed at my food on the other counter saying that it's packed in a container already. Then another lady took the container and plot it on the table, ".. HERE, JUST EAT IT LIKE THIS." I'm sorry, I just want to eat here. I felt like I killed their family or something. Yeah, they couldn't just transfer my meal into a bowl container so I can enjoy it better.

Throughout my meal, I was observing the place and I noticed that they had their temporary "test run" menu up, and that menu board did not match the noodles offered on the wall. The decor was very off. They still had the pho wall from the previous establishment. There was a cardboard congrats sign with some silver streamers hanging from the lights. I don't care much for atmosphere if I'm eating on 8th ave but the service left me trying to look for something to like. In the end, I couldn't believe I was excited to eat here. One of the lady in the front was talking so obnoxiously, she was criticising this Chinese looking customer that came in and spoke English. I was watching to see how that guy would respond, but guess he didn't understand her. It was so terrible to hear/watch.

Would I be back? Maybe if the ladies in the front get their act together and if the food would compare to the Bo Ky's in chinatown. Otherwise, avoid if possible.

  4. Poor, unorganized service, if there were any wait service at all. Limited seating, limited menu. Everything was served in plastic. Food was just okay, I would rather travel all the way to Chinatown instead.
