Every fiber of my fruffy pretentious Park Slope being wants to love this place. It seems so perfect: Frenchy french name, fried chicken on the menu, buttery pastries… I mean, how can it possibly go wrong. However, it would seem that the universe has other ideas for me and Du Jour… probably because it knows I don't belong here.
Never have I been stymied by a menu like this before. Multiple times now I have gone into this place, stared intently at the menu, eyes furrowed until my eyebrows join into one, willing the menu to give me something, ANYTHING, that I could eat. Fried chicken? Nope sorry we're out of that. Waffles? Sorry they go with the chickens. Pancakes? What do we look like, some kind of cheap-ass diner to you?**
If you're an egg fan, your options will be limitless here, but sadly I am not. So every time I go after 10 minutes of intense perusing, I sigh and order myself a pastry with a side of fries. Every. Damn. Time. Maybe you'll have better luck.

Comfortable and clean bakery with a good selection of food, sweets and drinks. There are gluten free goodies too.
Du Jour has free wifi (password chocolate). If you want to get work done, come during the weekday after lunch around 1:30 or on the weekends after brunch at 3:30. During brunch time, tables are set for dining so you can't really lounge around.
Cons: there aren't any outlets near seating area and bakery closes at 7PM.
Lovely cafe in Park Slope has a good selection of coffee, teas and pastries. The chocolate chip banana bread is ridiculous! Definitely try it. Even better is for those with a tree nut allergy like me, it doesn't contain walnuts. Tried the cream filled chocolate wafers and they were good as well. Very nice staff too. Only complaint is seating is a tad uncomfortable but still a nice place to come.
Great chicken-salad sandwich and beet salad! I also enjoyed the ice green tea. The service is efficient, and the place is cute!
Ordered: Sandwich and soup combo (Grilled cheese with added tomato and Potato leek soup)
Pros–The bread was buttery and crispy. The sandwich had a nice blend of cheeses. The soup was savory and the potato flavor wasn't too potent. I put in the BBQ shoestring fries into the soup which added a nice crunch. Everything was clearly freshly made. It's more of a cafe, so you can stay for hours without being bothered.
Cons–The menu was very limited.
Cute sit-down restaurant/bakery but be warned, there are a lot of Stroller Moms here (welcome to Park Slope!). Not that I have anything against them but don't expect it to be a laid back, relaxing place. Overall, the food here is decent. I like that they have a lot of options for brunch. From sandwiches to brunch platters, they have everything you expect on a brunch menu. My favorite was the hash brown that came with my American breakfast, which included scrambled eggs, pork sausages, and slices of toasts. The portions are pretty generous and the staff are really nice as well. The tables here are kind of small so it might be hard to accommodate a large group of people.
I thought I had written a review of this place a couple years back when they first opened, but to my dismay, I left "just the tip." He he. All kidding aside, this place is serious. It's my favorite neighborhood bakery, and living nearby makes it all too easy to pop in whenever I'm feeling indulgent.
TJ and Vera, the owners, are wonderful people. Kind, humble and welcoming. The energy they create, along with their amazing products, really makes a difference. The space is open with tables framing the front of the room, and down the hallway to the back, you'll find a garden oasis with additional seating when the weather permits.
I have certain go-to items here, but in general, everything is excellent. From cookies and cupcakes, scones and brioche, quiche and turnovers, to buns and croissants, this place really has it all. They also offer a great selection of finer confections like macarons, tarts, pudding, and eclairs. The pièce de résistance here, though, are probably the custom cakes and pies that are available upon request. For Thanksgiving last year, we ordered a salted caramel chocolate pie with a pretzel crust and it was fantastic.
Du Jour comes with my highest recommendation, definitely check them out.
