Late posting…looking for gifts for my foodie friends back home…came upon this place..bought gift bags of cookies! And one for myself of course! Friendly service n great baked goods..i will be back!

wake n bake? nah. don't start your day in the weeds. wake n bakery? yassss. start your day in the the patisserie!
small lil shop. limited sq footage. it's grab n go, not sit n sip.
it's a carb utopia. the bread is delicious. the various small sweet treats: croissants, cookies, etc. rarely disappoint.
whether it's your a.m. coffee n croissant; lunch takeout; or gifting someone baked eats…you can't go wrong.
i cannot tell a lie: the prices here are on the "uppity" side and you may catch some 'tude from folks on line–not the the staff who err on the professional side.
even though there's this whole anti-carb movement…treat yourself to those complex carbs once in a while. baking is a crumby job but Balthazar kneads the dough! ha

I've passed by this place so many times, and finally got in and tried their stuffs. What I can say is just 3 words: OMG!
This tiny place (they do have the restaurant next door) has all the goodies.
1. The chocolate donut: it's cake donut style and I don't like cake donuts in general, plus I just ate a Cronut and 3 cakes from Dominique Ansel. So technically not that hungry. BUT, I finished this donut within a few bites. I didn't expect it to be this good, chocolatory, moist, light, and very easy to swallow.
2. Tiramisu: it's not like the Italian style where there are cream cheese filled between layers. This tiramisu is more of a solid cake than creamy style. And you can taste the alcohol flavor. It makes you full and it makes a wonderful breakfast to me.
3. Apple Galette: Again, I usually don't like apple filled pastry such as apple pie or apple tart. But this galette was really delicious. I guess because I like this kind of crusty pastry. It might be too sweet to some people, but it was just fine to me.
4. Lemon soufflé: I love vegan soufflé, such as carrot or sweet potato soufflés. So I'd like to give this lemon soufflé a try, despite that I don't like lemon pastries or cakes (hate lemon tart). The first bite tasted weird, as if the lemon cream was soaked in oil for a couple of days. I can clearly feel the oiliness or sense the taste of oil. After another bite, that taste was gone. But when j kept eating, it came back again. I didn't feel disgusting, but the deliciousness was reduced.

The almond croissant is phenomenal. Buttery, light and delicious. The almond paste isn't too sweet and the extra (light) layer of crunch is a nice bonus. Much lighter than other popular almond croissants such as renaud's in Santa Barbara.
Small, but an incredible selection of breads, pastries, and coffee/tea drinks to choose from. Along with packaged baked goods that you can buy as small gifts or snacks for home.
Even since I got back from Paris, I've been obsessed with chocolate croissants. Got one at Balthazar and can't wait to come back and try the other items. The ham & cheese one looked phenomenal as well!
I needed some caffeine, but really wanted some of the hazelnut hot chocolate as well.. so I asked them to mix it for me. It was absolutely perfect. It was creamy and chocolate-y, with caffeine!
The chocolate croissant was flaky and buttery. The chocolate inside was semi-sweet and slightly soft.
I couldn't be more excited to finally come here. It's a short walk from the Prince St. stop in SoHo and you can walk around SoHo while you eat your pastries.
Really cute little bakery in Soho! The space is a bit cramped and crowded, which can make the ordering process a bit inefficient, but I overall really enjoyed the selection of pastries and breads. I especially enjoyed looking up at the breads that were twice the size of my face. I came by after brunch to look for some strong caffeine to counter my food coma, and the coffee here is indeed very strong. I would definitely recommend it if you're in the neighborhood and need a bit of a kick to your day.
The bakery place is small and about $5.00 for a slice of chocolate cake that was just ok. Not satisfying.
