Amy’s Bread

“I'm not normally a fan of red velvet because it tends to be very sweet, but the red velvet cake at Amy's was extremely light and fluffy.”

“Other oft-ordered things include the sticky bun, red velvet cupcake, and hot chocolate (with a homemade marshmallow – expensive, but a nice winter treat).”

“Indulge in the hot chocolate- don't skip on the homemade marshmallows…but you've been warned, it's rich!”

  1. Stopped here as a recommendation before a broadway show. We ordered a brownie and cupcake. My daughter liked her cupcake and I didnt like my brownie. It was hard and not moist and soft as Im used to. It was very crowded and everything looked amazing so I was surprised that my brownie wasnt great. The employees were very sweet and kind. Maybe their breads are better? Not sure. But not the best desserts around. Just ok for me.

  2. I used to come in this shop a long time ago when I was living in the neighborhood, so when I came back to NY for a few days I had to drop by!
I didn't remember the shop this big so I think they changed it a little bit.

The staff was really welcoming and nice.
They had a lot of different nice stuff, especially bread that looked awesome but we only took a cupcake to go.

The cupcake topping was not my favourite, it was, I think, pure butter cream and I didn't enjoy it so much, that's why only 4 stars, but the cake in itself was really good tho.

  3. I decided to chart new territory and I started trekking 9th avenue and found Amy's Bread which I heard about in Yelp. So I went inside just to get something to taste test.  The main display case was almost bare, maybe because it was after 7:00 PM. But the others cases still had stuff.

I picked some fig and hazelnut bread sticks, Brownie, Butterscotch Cashew Bar, Sticky Bun.
And started munching on the bar while on my bus home. Oh boy that Butterscotch Cashew Bar is like crack, I could not put it down for more than a minute, I had to eat more and more.

Next morning the first place I hit was Amy's but now they had their start of the day items like for breakfast so no bars. I got instead the Cinnamon Crispies which is like pop up Cinnamon bun without Pecans that is small and tasty.  And a Parmesan Twist bread.were you can actually see the twist done to the dough. I think I need to warm the bread and sticks cause they can be a little tough.  I finally got my Butterscotch Cashew Bar fix in the late afternoon.

I kind of like Amy's they are OK and a contrast to my richer, sweeter options that I do, like Maison Kayser,  Paris Baguette, or Dough and Doughnut Plant, So I I know I will be going back, plus they also have a coconut bar I need to try too.

  4. This little bakery in Hell's Kitchen is quite a gem. A friend invited me to meet them there for lunch and I was impressed at the selection. I ordered a specialty turkey sandwich and a slice of yellow cake with chocolate icing, and both were delicious. I was very happy with my choices. The space is intimate but open enough to feel light and airy. I was so happy that I had a chance to grab a bite from this place. Be prepared for a wait, because even though there are four people behind the corner, they can't seem to satisfy demand fast enough. Their octagon white tile floor, black grout, wooden chairs, marble tables, and lovely prints all contribute to the true charm of this place. I would schedule a meeting here or a quick chat over coffee. Next time I'll try their hot chocolate and croissants, and step next door for the fresh bread. They have two other locations in New York City, so be sure you're at the right one!

  5. Had a slice of their German Chocolate Cake ($5.25) and it was dry and not tasty. I was dismayed at this purchase. The folks at the counter though were pleasant.

  6. This is a small shop but they served decent coffee and it was a lovely respite from the August heat in NYC.  I tried the pastries (not made on site) and was mildly disappointed, but the incredibly friendly/happy young man behind the counter chatted with me as I ate.  We reminisced about the nerdy nostalgia brought on by "Pokemon Go" which made the solitary visit quite fun.  Great to experience a human side of NYC in a quick stop for caffeine.

  7. Thanks to my elite friend Elaine, I got a bag of amazing chocolate hazelnut biscotti as present! It's light and crunchy, with delightful chocolate taste and hazelnut aroma. They definitely nailed it! Will come back to try their famous cornmeal cookie.

  8. This bakery is delish!  First day I stopped in was because I wanted the NYC Classic a black and white cookie.   It was perfect-light and spongy without being to cakey.  Just the right amount of frosting.   Day 2 was for a Parisian breakfast of a half toasted baguette with butter and jam and a macchiato.  Bread was toasted perfectly.  The ladies running this show are fast and attentive ur if you aren't ready they move to the next customer.
