  1. Being a frequent guest at the bakery, I had high hopes for the kitchen. Gladly, it was just as amazing

I was pleasantly surprised with the size of the croque monsieur! Wonderfully cheesy and the bread was perfectly crispy on the outside and soft inside.

The matcha beignets and brown sugar DKA were equally good and were a good finish to breakfast here.

    UPDATE:

I had the balsamic burrata and sea salt caramel ice cream twist cone. I was more of a fan of the burrata side but I thought both were well-though-out flavors. What I was surprised by, but really liked was the combination of a brownie and potato crisp. It felt like dipping my french fries into a milkshake!

  2. Review of the ice cream window:
The salt and pepper caramel softserve got better for each bite! The taste is like nothing I've ever tasted before. It's big, so I recommend sharing. The cone is also super tasty! It's $7, but it's a unique ice cream. The burrata was not so special, so if you are eager to try something new – get the caramel!

They only serve ice cream from Friday through Sunday, so plan your visit.

The cakes is also very yummy, you almost can't go wrong! If you want fancy cakes, this (or the Dominique Ansel Bakery) is the place to go. You have to pay around $8 per cake, but they are goooood.

  3. I still don't get the hype. This place, along with Dominique Ansel Bakery, is a tourist attraction. I came in because I had like 20 minutes to kill before meeting a friend for dinner. I wasn't gonna just sit in there and not get anything like a weirdo so I tried the salted caramel French macaron ($2.72). That thing was HUGE which (in my opinion) takes away from the authenticity of it being a French maracron. It was not that good, kinda dry, totally forgettable.

They have food here as well and a smaller (but more normal) assortment of baked goods/pastries. Also, unlike the bakery, you won't have to wait 45+ minutes on an absurd line that wraps around the store/block. In fact, when I went, there was no line AND I found a spot to sit on that giant set of steps they consider seating (probably because they don't sell the infamous cronut or chocolate chip cookie shots). The staff is so much more pleasant here than at the bakery, too. No pretentious attitude and very welcoming. They greet you with a cheery "welcome to the kitchen!"

I would try it just to try it. Don't go out of your way though.

  4. I don't even know what to say about this place that hasn't already been confirmed by other internet aficionados, but I'll say this; the food here will blow your effing mind.  If you are a dessert person, get your ass here pronto.

I got the ice cream sandwich, which is on their brown sugar DKA (Dominique's Kouign Amann) and filled with salted caramel ice cream.  Then my head exploded.

Thank goodness I don't live near this place, I'd be Fatty McGee.

  5. So delicious. Came here with a friend on a Saturday morning so didn't have to wait much for a table. The food is delicious and tastes fresh. But the key tastiness comes from the chocolate and the croissants. They are really to die for. Absolutely fantastic.

  6. You can't say that everything Dominique Ansel puts his hands on turns to gold, but it's not that far from the truth, either. I wanted to make sure I tried the Kitchen before leaving NY, and left pretty satisfied.

    – Brown sugar DKA: I'll be honest, it's been over a year since I had a DKA at the Bakery, so I couldn't detect that much of a difference between the standard and the brown sugar variety highlighted here at the Kitchen. It also doesn't really matter because any DKA is absolutely fantastic. Decadent while still feeling light enough to convince yourself you can eat more items, like:

    – Flourless double chocolate cookie: is there such a thing as "too thick?" I'm not sure, but I do know that this cookie was near overpowering. It kinda looked like there were walnuts inside but you're not going to taste anything outside of the chocolate. I struggled a bit to finish it off because it's rather one-note and so so intense, but my momma didn't raise no weakling so down it went.

There's so much to try at the Kitchen, but so little time, stomach space, and money. If you're not dying to have a cronut or whatever else DA is promoting at the Bakery, definitely go to the Kitchen because it's bound to be less crowded. When I went the interior was looking a little dirty, given the summer rains that afternoon, so I took my stuff to go, but ideally it'd be a nice place to stop in for a pastry or five.

  7. Cute place to grab a bite to eat.
It was nice because it was not too crowded.
Ordered the panzanella, which had pancetta, toasted sourdough bread, and heirloom tomatoes in a balsamic vinaigrette.

  8. The sister eatery to the famous bakery. There's some savory sandwiches, viennoiseries, and pastries. I fell in love with kouign amanns after having them at b. patisserie in SF so I had to get the Brown Sugar DKA. Ansel is known for his inventiveness and exacting methods. After watching a Youtube video on how he made perfect cinnamon rolls, I knew I had to try one of his creations.

Didn't want to brave the lines for the cruffin, so I came to Ansel Kitchen, a quieter low key cafe. The ladies at the counter were nice and patient as I scanned and made my choices. Stadium seating where you can watch the baked goods being prepared upstairs and, a couple outdoor tables in the shade.

DKA – The outer crust was browned and caramelized to perfection forming a flaky shell. The inside was gummier and chewy, the layers of pastry dough stuck together which made it feel more weighed down. Despite brown sugar being in the name, it was a molasses like but subtle sweetness.
Rhubarb Macaron – Pretty standard, good light texture and cream. Cookie was lacking in flavor until I bit into the center filled with rhubarb jam. Too sweet for me.

Verdict is the DKA is delicious but too heavy and texture leaves more to be desired. Would love to try the goods fresh from the Bakery location.
