A restaurant coupled with an antique store, Di Palma achieves a very unique and Victorian ambiance. When you first set foot into this place, your eyes will immediately be spoiled with so many things to look at.
On top of that, they provide a complimentary dish of salad, bruschetta and penne! There is absolutely NO WAY you can leave this place hungry. So if you're on a diet, this place isn't for you! On the other hand, your pocket will love you for it (I mean – $20 each for 6 people?!?!?).
We ordered the meatballs, the salmon pasta and the lasagna – so we've had 6 dishes in total and only paid for half. While they were all well-cooked, pasta is pasta so in that sense, the food was on average. The salmon pasta, however, had a unique and captivating taste that'll lead your tongue to want more and will easily win the hearts of everyone around the table!
Finally, it is also BYOB. And so as if we were in Italy, we ended up having dinner for 5 hours. 5 hours! This place really has outdone themselves.
Considering we found ourselves having brunch in the middle of a baby store earlier this year, this was the perfect place for us to dine. Who doesn't want to enjoy some delicious Italian food in an antique restaurant? We really enjoyed it because there was always something interesting to look at and take in.
I totally get why my husband poo-poos on all our Italian food in the west coast. Just like Italian food in Italy is different in the north and south, Italian food in the United States is completely different in the east/west. He won't ever find anything like this out in CA. The food here was outstanding! From the appetizers, to the entrees and finally the dessert everything was delicious and the portions were big enough that almost everyone took some leftovers home. The service was really good too. We were a large party of 9 and we never had to flag down our servers or ask for anything.
The portions ARE gigantic, and the place IS filled with odds and ends. We've shared the meatballs appetizer, which could be a meal on its own. The meatballs very flavorful and had nice texture. The vegetarian lasagna was good, but nothing special. The seafood (shrimps, mussels, calamari) with linguini in tomato sauce was nice. I think I like Patsy's better, but this place is an experience for sure.
I am not sure exactly if this is a restaurant in a store or a store in a restaurant. Walking in, it is a lot bigger than it looks from the outside and since it doubles as an antique store, there are interesting things to look at no matter where you look. The portions are massive, I should have known since the charge to share an entree is $5. The menu has enough variety but not so much that it is overwhelming. I would definitely recommend this place. It's not pricey and the food is great.
