Mixed bag of reviews for my favorite little local Italian eatery!?! Well, I've got no complaints, been coming here for years (it's funny how we forget to review the places we go to the most).
I love everything i try here. Usually I go with whatever the fish or pasta special happens to be, order a glass of pinot noir and enjoy the complimentary bruschetta served as you wait for your meal to come out.
I'm not going to rant and rave how great it is or how perhaps this or that might use a little work – sorta want to keep them as my own little local secret. Shhh…
Stopped by for a solo lunch today, I was working across the street and decided to treat myself. So I ordered my standard Italian lunch – linguini with white clam sauce, a glass of pinot grigio and an espresso. Prices are moderate – I spent $22.00 before the tip.
The linguini was al dente, the clams were fresh and abundant, maybe twenty little necks. Garlic did not have any color but oh well. Just a bit of grit at the bottom of the bowl, so the kitchen wasn't being careful pouring the sauce out of the pan. I could live with that and would order it again. The grigio was decent and a good sized pour. The espresso was fine but served without lemon peel.
Service was prompt and friendly -I sat at the bar since I was by myself. The place was almost empty for a Friday lunch. It would make an excellent spot for a quiet business lunch.
The room consists of a long bar down the left side, five curved booths on the right side and five four tops down the center. Very pretty room but with the bar area not exactly romantic.
La Fiamma is a staple for the town of Harrison, as I only recently discovered. I had a craving for Italian food in NJ. What I didn't know is that there was a really good Italian spot only 5 minutes away from home.
As soon as I walked in, I was warmly greeted by the hostess. Our waiter was extremely pleasant and friendly. We placed our order: eggplant rollatini as an appetizer, and the mahi-mahi daily special and chicken francese (my go to entrée for NJ Italian restaurants) for our entrees.
The waiter brought out bruschetta and bread to our table. The bruschetta was a really nice gesture. The eggplant rollatini was really good and serving size was enough for two people. I opted for the linguini with the chicken francese. It was probably one of the best chicken francese I had in a very long time. I didn't get a chance to try the mahi-mahi but my mother said it was absolutely delicious. I was actually quite full and wasn't able to order any dessert, which I wish I had tried.
Very pleased to have finally found a great Italian restaurant so close to home.
Food was great. Service was as well. Would definitely return. Its a nice family style atmosphere.
