Solid Thai food in a very cozy, peaceful environment with great service.
Came here on a Tuesday afternoon for lunch with a girlfriend. We were actually surprised when we stepped in by how cute the decor was; it would work well for a laidback date night. It is rather small though, and I doubt the restaurant can seat more than 20-25 people.
We were promptly seated and perused the menu. Weekday lunch specials include a salad or tom yum soup with an entree. The cost is $8 (plus extra if you get shrimp for your protein) and the deal lasts till 3pm. It's a very good deal.
I got the Thai salad and Red Curry with Pork. The salad was a simple mix of green with cucumbers and tomato and peanut sauce. The red curry (which I asked for mild) was served with a generous portion of rice and pork. The sauce was deliciously savory and there was a nice mix of eggplabt, green beans, red bell pepper, and bamboo.
My friend got the Tom yum soup and the Pad See Ew with Beef. I didn't try the soup but it had a good amount of mushrooms and other fillers; basically, ot was much more thab just broth. Her entree was really good. The broad noodles were perfectly cooked with sauce and there were delicious bits of savory scrambled eggs and beef. This restaurant is very generous with their portions of protein.
We also ordered a Thai iced tea and a Thai iced coffee. I really liked the Thai iced tea; good flavor, and not too sweet. A regular drink costs $2.50 or you can get it without ice for $3.50. I thought the regular portion was fine. They don't overdo the ice so I doubt the extra dollar gets you much more tea/coffee if you omit the ice.
Overall we had a great meal and there was so much food I actually took some home. It's not food that'll knock your socks off, but it's standard dishes executed well for a very fair price. The waiters were unobtrusive and the service was prompt and polite.
Note: credit minimum is $15 and they don't take Amex. Also, street parking in the front is limited but there are two shop centers across the street so you can park at either one and walk.
I liked it. Seems like a big take out place. Food was pretty good!
FOOD: My dad and I ordered the Pad Thai (hottest level), which was spicy but not super hot Thai-style spicy like I think my dad hoped. Good overall, but I wish they gave lime with it (I probably could have asked for it but didn't). We also had a chicken peanut curry (name escapes me but it was the first curry listed on the menu). This was different than most curries I've had. Comes with fried chicken and a thicker, sweet peanut sauce. We got the medium spicy and it wasn't spicy at all to me. I liked it because it was different, but if you're looking for a classic Thai curry this isn't it.
AMBIANCE: Well decorated. The place is small so it feels a little cramped (small seating areas), but it's nice. My dad and I were the only ones there for dinner until three other groups showed up around 7.
SERVICE: Not bad, but could be a little better. The waitress (which kept changing, I think it's family run) didn't realize we were drinking wine out of cups because they hadn't offered glasses. Very nice people though!
TIP: BYOB! Perks of how difficult it is to get a liquor license in NJ.
Very legit Thai food I've eaten in NJ. It might better than Mei Thai in Woodbridge but not as good as Thailand of course. The portion size is more of Thailand than of NJ.
Seating very limited and the take reservation. I would get take-out if you live nearby. Parking is best across the street next to the laundry mat,
They are closed on Mondays. The day I usually want Thai because they are so busy on the weekends!.
Stopped in for lunch today at this unassuming spot on the corner right across from the A&P parking lot. Parking is tricky on the street so your best bet would be to park in the parking lot across the street.
We arrived at noon and were the first customers for lunch. No one greeted us. Instead we had to poke our head in the window by the kitchen and ask if they were open which was kinda awkward. No biggie though, since, once they knew we were there the service was great. Never felt rushed but certainly never forgotten about either. The place itself is definitely tiny but decor is cute and warm.
I had the tom yum soup which came as an option (or salad) with the chicken pad Thai. Only 8 bucks was definitely a good deal for the amount of food I got. Quality was good too. I got it hot and it definitely had a kick to it without being excessively hot. My brother got the green curry and gobbled it up. He said his had quite the kick to it and thankfully our server advised him to get it mild versus medium since green curry itself tends to be spicier. He also opted for the salad with his lunch and also ordered us some lumpia. Yum. Not greasy and filled generously with meat.
Definitely an above average Thai experience. Will return for dinner (and reservation) with a bottle of vino.
Hands down the best Thai restaurant around. Don't let the exterior fool you, when you go in and dine there you won't be disappointed I promise.
Place is very small and cozy inside, please call ahead and make reservations, otherwise you will have to wait for a table. Tables are close to each other, so you will probably feel like you are sitting next to someone else, unless you are a party of two and reserve the corner table next to the fireplace.
We ordered the coconut shrimp as an appetizer, it was the best coconut shrimp that I've ever had, there were 6 huge shrimp with real coconuts and dipping sauce, it was just amazing.
Also the tum yum soup was excellent, I ordered it mild, however it was a bit too spicy for my taste. All of my spicy loving friends will enjoy this for sure!
My shrimp pad thai was loaded with tons of shrimp and very tasty. I was amazed at the amount of shrimp in it, Normally you get tiny shrimp where you can count them on one hand. Not the case here, shrimps were big and a whole lot of them.
We also ordered the green spicy curry which I didn't personally try, but was told that it was excellent.
They don't have parking, however there is plenty around the corner on the street.
This place is BYOB, so take advantage.
Had a lovely lunch here today with a friend. Their lunch specials are great! I had the Pad Pak with beef, and my friend had Pad Thai with chicken. They gave us salads first. The dressing was a tad sweet but very good.
My food was fantastic. The vegetables were crisp and fresh. The sauce was delicious. I'm just sorry it's taken me so long to try this place because it's great.
Service was excellent, too. Try it, you'll like it!
Finally decided to (with great willpower) abstain from Binh Duong, which is across the street, to try out this Thai establishment.
Not disappointed. Cozy, casual little restaurant with an affordable menu – not the cheapest around but won't cost you an arm and leg either for some decent curry or pad thai. And the portions are generous. The pad thai was heaping with noodles and my red curry had plenty of protein. Both dishes were flavored and cooked very well. I'm a lightweight when it comes to spicy foods and the curry at "mild" was hitting near my upper tolerance limit, but once I settled into the dish it was not problem at all polishing off all that curry goodness.
Value-wise, I'd still go to Binh Duong for my Asian noodle fix, but Spice Thai is a worthwhile alternative for those who are really craving Thai food.
Parking can be challenging although there is a small strip mall with free parking across the busy street. There is a minimum credit card charge which can make one aggravated as many of the entrees are $2-3 short of the minimum so if you're eating alone, maybe get a dessert or something to go.
Good, quick, nicely, priced Thai food.
I called in a take out order and they said it would take fifteen minutes, which is about the time it takes for me to drive, so it was great. I like ll the plants outside. I think it gives it a rustic vibe. I hope they keep those around as long as possible.
Inside was more elegant than I expected, but very few tables and no where to really wait around if the tables are full. I'd be weary to eat in at a busy time.
The flat noodle basil dish I ordered was something new for me as I usually go for pad Thai, but it tastes great and was very filling with veggies, big noodles, and chicken. I do kind of wish I stuck with pad Thai to see how it compares to others.
It was a little annoying the credit card minimum is $15 which is high compared to others. Good thing I had enough cash. There is only street parking but not on one side. There are side streets and a shopping plaza across the street that should be fine. I will definitely be back to check out some other dishes.
