I mean, it's tough for me to judge Thai food because I've had some pretty freaking good Thai food around the area. I believed in my previous Yelpers' reviews and decided to come here right before getting my massage 5 minutes down the road.
Let's start off with the staff. I was hoping for a bit more enthusiasm in the staff when I walked in as there were already a good amount of people having early dinner. A waiter slowly approached my husband and I to seat us (I also came here on a Tuesday evening around 6pm..). We were then greeted by another waitress who seemed to be waiting on a majority of the table (probably about 5-6 tables, 2 people per table, with one party of 5). She did good considering she was catering to most, if not all, the tables. If I were to rate the staff alone, it'd most likely be a 2 star..
My husband ordered a cranberry juice with no ice. He was giving cranberry juice with ice. Not a huge deal, but clearly shows she wasn't paying attention to the order. I ordered the Masaman curry with beef and my husband got the pad see ew with chicken. Our orders came out quick but it was definitely not impressive. My curry dish came with a small bowl of rice (about the size of my palm) and a large bowl of the curry. Normally I would be more than fine with the small bowl of rice, but when you're eating curry, you can't really eat it alone. the curry dish was a little bit smaller than the size of a frisbee, decorated with about 5 pieces of beef and cooked peanuts. The curry wasn't bad. The thickness of the curry was actually really good, not too thick, not too thin. The beef was eh. I've definitely had better beef elsewhere and this seemed like something I can cook at home. My husband's pad see ew was just simple. A plate full of noodles with bland pieces of chicken thrown on top. Overall, the food got 2.5 stars max.
The restaurant itself is really simple. Cheap wooden chairs and probably cheap tables decorated with white tablecloth and fancy wine glasses to add a little jazz. This place is BYOB so I can see why most would come here for Thai around town.
I would suggest anyone looking for some GOOD Thai food to take a drive to Ridgewood and try Ridge Thai. The place is very tiny but for a BYOB and awesome Thai food, this is the place to go. It's either here or drive to Brooklyn for your Thai craving!
I wanted to try a Thai spot that was a little off the beaten path for me. After reading some of Pimaan's raving reviews I was excited to try it out, but unfortunately I wasn't as impressed as I thought I'd be. Consider my review 2.5 stars.
I went around 1 on a Tuesday and it was pretty busy. The service was kinda slow because there were only two waiters working the whole restaurant and taking phone orders. However, the server who waited on me was very polite and apologized for keeping me waiting.
The atmosphere is pretty unremarkable, it looks like the place hasn't been updated in many years. When the food is just okay, decor can make or break an overall dining experience.
So now for the food. I ordered the Pasta Rad Kang because it sounded intruiging. Get this: vegetables and curry over spaghetti. Whaat? I love spaghetti but never heard of it in Thai food. Pimaan is so Americanized the place settings don't come with chopsticks. Even the salad that came as an appetizer was topped with bottled Italian dressing. Listen, Italian dressing is my all-time favorite, but it was an unexpected appearance to say the least.
When my entree came out, I just didn't love it. It was way too creamy and I wish it came with more vegetables. The price wasn't bad, only $8 for a pretty big portion that I finished later (after some doctoring it up with extra lime juice.) It actually tasted better cold a few hours later.
Altogether my experience was mediocre. When the food, service and atmosphere are all so-so, you get 2.5 stars from this girl (I'll round up to be generous).
My quest for more 5 star Thai restaurants continues!
The food, service and pricing is good, the quality of the food is very good. Call for a reservation for dinner on the weekends. The traditional dishes are good and what you hope to get in Thai dishes. It is definitely one of the best Thai restaurants in Bergen county. Great place for lunch, they offer specials and take out too! The decor is pleasant both inside and the front entrance. It doesn't look like much from the road but font be scared to go in, you'll be pleasantly surprised.
We just moved to oradell from Englewood and was searching for a go to Thai place which is hard to find in the northern NJ area, but managed to find near my old home (sapphire Thai express in Teaneck).
Ordered take out from here anticipating good returns based on the Yelp reviews, but was sadly disappointed.
The crab fried rice was good, but the drunken noodle and pad see ew were disappointing. The noodles weren't chewy and didn't taste very fresh. While I appreciated the enormity of veggies it included, I was looking forward to the noodles and Thai flavors, like fish sauce. What I got instead was more of Chinese and other flavors, but not really what you expect in Thai food. I also got a dish with fried egg noodle and gravy, but the sauce was more sweet and sour than gravy like.
Will continue to keep searching.
We were looking for good Thai in Bergen County…We found it! The staff was incredibly friendly and accomidating. The atmosphere was warm and inviting and tastefully done.
We ordered the Tom Yum and Tom Kha soups. Both were extremely flavorful. For entrees we had basil chicken, chicken with baby corn, and beef Pad See-ew. They did make one mistake bringing us the wrong entree, but corrected it immediately (great service).
The meals were all very tasty. If I'm ever in the mood for Thai in Oradell, this will be my go to place.
This is one of 3 Thai restaurants we frequent in Bergen County. The other two are Gao in Ramsey and Bangkok Garden in Hackensack. Consistently good. Would suggest reservations during peak hours. Got the drunken noodles tonight. Some Yelper mentioned that there might be a new chef, and she may be right. Food does come out quickly.
I went here for a big birthday party with my girlfriend's family. They're regulars, so I was able to try a wide variety of great dishes from this excellent Thai restaurant. It was late on a Saturday afternoon, so the place was a little bit short staffed, but we nevertheless got excellent service and had a generally great experience.
Our meal started with egg rolls, which were fine (I've never had one that blew my mind) and an above average papaya salad that had a good balance between sweetness, tanginess and spice. The shrimp atop it were surprisingly tender and flavorful.
Next was a course of mixed vegetables with tofu in a brown sauce, which was very competently done but didn't amaze me. The pad thai is pretty different here, and is made with vermicelli style glass noodles as opposed to a flat noodle. The sauce is a little more wet than what you might be used to, and has a strong flavor of fish sauce and tamarind. I liked it quite a bit. Notably it was garnished with lemon instead of lime, and probably this is owing to the GLOBAL LIME CRISIS and not to a stylistic choice of theirs.
Breaded shrimp in what looked like some kind of chili sauce came out, and I did not get any because I lack the killer instinct. They looked and smelled delicious so they will probably haunt me for the rest of my days. At the same time, breaded frog legs in a garlic sauce came out, and this time I was ferocious enough to get some. The breading was light and crisp, I wouldn't say 'delicate' but not overpowering. The sauce was a real standout among garlic sauces I've had, with the garlic perfectly browned to provide a smokey flavor with no burnt notes. The greens with which the frog legs came were so saturated with the sauce that they were almost the highlight of the dish.
The centerpiece of the meal was whole red snapper in green curry with mixed vegetables. This was a great whole fish entree; the fish was cooked just about perfectly, taking up the floral, spicy flavor of the green curry without becoming tough or flakey. The sauce was excellent and just eating it with rice was one of my favorite parts of the meal.
Pimaan is marked by consistent high quality. Everything is very good, though nothing can be said to break the mold or truly surprise. For a thai meal that is extremely unlikely to disappoint, it has my whole-hearted recommendation.
I only recently found out about this restaurant. I ordered pick up and the quality of the food was excellent. It is definitely worth a stop here if you live in the area.
