But … to start with …
the place is a friggin zoo!!
When you walk inside, you're just not sure what to do with yourself. Who's in line, who isn't in line, are you cutting ahead of someone ? … There kinda is a line but it's all so unclear at times if that really is the "line" that will get you to someone to place your order. If you've been in this place, you'll kinda get this, I think? A bit chaotic…
Also, due to the madness of it all, they may or may not get your order correct. Recently, my boyfriend went in there near closing time & the guy decided NOT to write down the order. And so… he totally screwed it up! The order: one sesame bagel toasted with veggie cream cheese & one onion bagel toasted with regular cream cheese. So my boyfriend's onion bagel ended up with veggie CC as well. He was quite displeased when he got home & found out that the guy gave him the wrong thing. Said the guy started to write down the order but then just walked away to prepare my sesame & told him to – "keep talking, I'm listening"… Well, obviously you weren't listening very well! Next time, listen AND write down the order in order to get it right! Luckily, we had a tub of plain cream cheese at home & he was able to somewhat scrape off the veggie CC… Of course, it isn't quite as good when you have to do all that not to mention he was charged for the wrong thing! So just be warned…
A few months back I grabbed a menu & was pleasantly surprised to find that NY Bagels has a variety of other stuff on the menu from hot & cold sandwiches, wraps, salads & many other breakfast items to choose from. Recently we decided to call in an order which included an order of their buttermilk pancakes. The first time we tried them they were way overcooked almost on the burnt side. Next time I called, I mentioned to the guy to please ask them to not overcook them & they were better that time around. Just the other day I ordered them yet again & this time they were decent but way smaller a portion than the other times. And mind you this is @six bucks for 3 pancakes. So, might be skipping the pancakes if they're gonna be skimping…
The reviews are pretty mixed so all I can say is it give it a try & judge for yourself…
Bagels are good and the hot prepared food is great. The prices are fair and the portions when you get the hot food are huge. If you are in the area and want a quick nosh….this is the place.
Ordered delivery from here and was thoroughly impressed! All food arrived hot–including the coffee, which was perfect.
The breakfast foods were really tasty–hungry man platter and bagel with lox. I was impressed that the eggs and pancakes were both cooked perfectly–not in danger of being overdone.
The Chicago burger was less tasty, but I did have it reheated. Too spicy and vinegary for my taste, but that's a personal preference.
I would definitely order from here again. The delivery time was about fifteen minutes past the estimated time, which was a bit annoying, but they did let me know, and, like I said, the food arrived tasty, which is the most important thing to me.
