“And don't fret, they have lots above that price range too!”

“An unpretentious little wine shop in the West Village…and like Alexa B., I was tempted to keep it to myself as well, but I want to share the love.”

  1. A wonderful neighborhood wine store in the West Village.  The place is tiny, and rather than cramming lots of wines into a small space, there is instead a smaller selection that is curated to make the shopping experience more intimate.  There is a great selection of affordable wines with nice descriptions of each and friendly owners.  A real gem!

  2. new to west village, i asked a local friend what my new go-to wine shop should be. enter: jones street wines.

they have a good rotating selection primarily in the $10-$20 range. And don't fret, they have lots above that price range too! 😉

after summer ends, they have a weekly wednesday tasting from 9-11pm! can't wait to go and discover a new vino or two!

  3. A nice wine shop close to West 4th subway stop.

Owner was friendly and was very helpful. Originally, I was looking for a sparkling rose, but then I decided to just bring a rose. He had a Sancerre rose, so I immediately jumped for it.

I'll definitely be back to pick up another bottle of Sancerre rose!

  4. I used to live right next to this shop when it was still in its former iteration, "Wines by .com," which was a very cool and minimalist, boutique wine shop owned by quite a character.  The shop is still similar in a lot of ways, but it has also undergone a face lift and has had some new life breathed into it.  The layout is slightly different, there is greater variety now, and also more inventory.  The owner of JSW, Joel, is a great guy and was previously involved at Pasita, a small, West Village pizza and wine bar which you may be familiar with.  I like his laid back approach and his vision for the store.  There are always some tried and true staples available, but he's also not afraid to push the envelope a bit and bring in some more obscure varietals, or wines from relatively unknown producers.  He has a good palate and is knowledgeable such that making recommendations or suggestions to his customers is never an issue or a bother.

If you are a "big box" wine store person, who likes to roll up and just grab your favorite bottle of California Cab or Oregon Pinot, you might be thrown off by this place.  However, if you like to explore the diversity that the wines of the world have to offer and aren't afraid to try something new now and then, which might be out of your comfort zone, then I highly recommend JSW.  It's a great little wine shop with a lot of character, and I'm happy to support them whenever I can.  Cheers!

  5. My favorite wine store.  The owner is so friendly and engaging with his customers.  It's nice to go to a place where you're greeted by name.  There are reasonably-priced wines to suit any palate, plus a rewards program as an added bonus.  Their tastings are such a fun, low-key way to spend your Wednesday evenings.  Can you really beat good wine and great company?
