This is an adorable cookie shop on Staten Island, with all different kinds of cookie jars on sale and on display.
Whenever I get to work in Staten Island, I always try and stop in for a sweet treat! Butter, butter, butter is the shining star of these cookies. They have so many different varieties and even cookie whoopie pies, and biscotti. My personal favorite is the Lemon Drop cookie.
The staff is always happy, maybe it's all the sugar in the air! The prices are by the pound, they also have coffee and lattes. Street parking only. I can't wait to visit this shop again!
While walking out of a Walgreen's in Staten Island, I noticed the most heavenly smell. I look across the street and I see The Cookie Jar then I look straight ahead from exit of the Walgreen's and see a wall ad on how The Cookie Jar has "The Best Cookies in Staten Island". Going by the smell and the review's on Yelp, I had to go check it out for myself.
There was so much to choose from and everything comes in bite sized portions, so you can sample a little bit of everything. I got a lemon bar, an Oreo chocolate covered pretzel, a red velvet whoopie pie, a brownie bite, a Nutella filled nut cluster, and a slutty brownie (layer of chocolate chip cookie, Oreo, and then brownie). All of my treats were excellent, but the slutty brownie was my favorite.
I was certainty impressed. The Cookie Jar just might have "The Best Cookies on Staten Island."
OMG. HOLY BATMAN, COOKIE JAR!! Where thouest been my whole life?!!!
Okay, so months ago (or like a month and a half ago) I came up with an idea for a "let's play hookie from work, burn a vacation day in December that we're probably going to lose anyway and do a borough crawl" while trekking to Long Island with Ingrid S. for an amazing German themed Yelp Elite event (shout out to Jando!).
This was our first stop (out of two) for Staten Island…and perhaps the last because I'm considering dropping SI off of this year's borough crawl – it's not you Staten Island, it's the fact that trekking through your streets and waiting for your buses is crazy time inducing. Cheer up tho, you guys have COOKIE JAR!!!
Ingrid S. ordered a double chocolate chip cookie – sweet, chocolatey, goodness! Zaneta got a cherry chocolate chip cookie, it was also delicious and I was glad that my bite didn't contain an actual cherry. I don't mind actual cherries on their own actually – but I get weird about fruits in baked goods or mixed with chocolate. Meh.
I got a "slurry brownie bite". This might be the most amazing .90¢ cent item I've ever purchased. Up until this point it had never even HEARD of a "slutty brownie". It was so chewy, decadent, rich and complex that I decided to, at the work next day, GOOGLE "slutty brownie" so that I could find the recipe…
It was then that I realized WHY this was the most amazing brownie I've ever feasted on. It's pretty much made up of my favorite non-savory food groups. A layer of cookie dough, oreos and brownie batter makes for the most decadent slutty freakin' brownie!!! Unfortunately I have no pics of our delightful treats because my iPhone battery couldn't handle all the awesomeness, lol.
…This year for Halloween if I could convince my boyfriend to be a cookie jar, I would totally be as slutty brownie, lol. But seriously, go here and put a slutty brownie bite in your mouth :).
It's $11 a pound for the desserts. They're all mini size and I actually like the idea of it because that way you don't get sick of the desserts.
Salted Caramel Bite: I didn't really like it. I didn't really tasted the salted caramel, just tasted brownie and chocolate.
Slutty Brownie Bite: It lived up to my expectation. You could taste the brownie, oreo, and cookie.
Red Velvet Whoopie: I like the whoppie pie, the cream cheese (if that's what they use for frosting) wasn't overwhelming at all.
White Chocolate Rainbow: I like and don't like it at the same time. I'm not really a fan of the filling in between the cakes but it didn't taste bad.
Chocolate Chip Sandwich: I like this cookie sandwich, full of chocolate chips and wasn't too chocolately.
Raspberry Coconut Square: It doesn't really have the raspberry flavor but definitely the coconut.
Watermelon Lemonade: I wasn't sure of what to expect from this drink, just that it will probably be really sour. But I was wrong, it tasted like watermelon juice with a hint of lemonade. I definitely like this drink.
I definitely plan on coming back and trying the other different desserts they have to offer, they all look so good!
First time visitor. Very nice display of goodies. How can one not get there sweet tooth satisfied. I went with the crumb cake and cheese danish. Both super fresh and delightful. Brought 2 cheese danishes. I like it better when I heated it up for 30 seconds. Very good.
I can see myself returning.
I was looking for fun treats to bring to customers yesterday. I turned to Yelp and found the Cookie Jar. When I got there, I found a dizzying array of cookies. I knew from the reviews that I absolutely had to get some slutty brownies, but I needed some advice on other options.
Fortunately, the young ladies at the counter were super helpful and friendly. The nut cookies, they told me, were also among the most popular. So, I loaded up on these and headed out to see my peeps.
At the last stop of the day, my customer offered to let me try some of the treats in the box. So, I took a sliver of the brownie. And then another… and another. So much for a sliver, but these slutty brownies are amazing… chocolate chip, oreo, and brownie layers of amazingness. No, really, if you are anywhere near Staten Island, putt down your phone, tablet, laptop and head to the Cookie Jar and get all slutty!
And if you're far away, they deliver. They were filling an order when I walked in and they let me know they ship anywhere. I needed to send a gift, so I ordered online last night. The next afternoon, to what did my wondering eyes did appear? The box of cookies sitting on a counter in Boston!! It's like they were teleported, it was so fast! My friends were sending me texts all afternoon how much they loved them. I got similar messages from my customers.
If you've got a cookie craving, check out the Cookie Jar. You will not be disappointed. As for me, they will be my go-to delivery treats. Unfortunately, I cannot go there for business anymore since they don't take American Express. Oh well, I can always get a few for myself on my way to another bakery!
Extremely over hyped. While the girls who work there are very efficient and super friendly, pretty much every cookie or desert falls flat. Out of the pound of mixed cookies, maybe 3 or 4 were enjoyable. Just because it's smothered in powered sugar doesn't make it a good cookie. Cupcakes were pretty tasty.
With the holidays upon us, the Cookie Jar is my go to spot for any kind of desert. The have every kind of cookie imaginable, and a neat collection of cookie jars that would make a cool gift if you are going to someone's house for dinner. My personal favorites are the PB&J cookie, any of the brownie bites, and the raspberry cookie covered in chocolate. The store just smells like diabetes, and it's very difficult to make it home without sneaking a cookie or two from the box. The staff is always helpful, and they have a pretty efficient system for ordering.
