Location isn't bad, but they were dead on a friday night. There were literally 3 tables there during the hr we dined. Staff is nice and decor is alright (what do you except from a thai place in Booton NJ?).
We started with their Deluxe App Assortment for 2 – no comment,,, i guess the best were the dumplings. For entree we tried the 1/2 crispy duck in red curry and chicken spicy noodles. we asked for mild as we were told it's pretty spicy (but I can hold my spice), but it was crazy spicy! My lips were all red and irritated by the end of dinner. Anyway, I felt the place was OK, nothing compared to Thai places in NY, but considering this is NJ, i'm giving it a 3 star.
Ok, I have to give major props to this place for putting up with a horde of hungry Indians invading them on New Years Day. We basically went in there and rearranged the furniture about a million times until everyone was finally happy and they just stood back and let us do whatever we wanted.
As far as the food goes, I think it was way overpriced for both quantity and quality. Most dishes were around $15 and seafood was about $18. We had the Tom Yum Soup, the Penang Curry, the Green Curry, Shrimp Pad Thai and….a chicken fried rice that I forget the name of.
The Pad Thai was the best I've ever had. They had this tangy, spicy sauce that was really great and the balance of sweet and spicy was perfect. The shrimp were HUGE and perfectly cooked.
On the other hand, both the curries were the worst I've ever had. That's not to say that they were inedible. I've just had better. The green curry was watery and a bit too salty. The chicken pieces seemed like they had just been dropped in there last minute and were dry and flavorless unless you really mashed them into the gravy. The flavor of the Penang curry was better but it had the same issue with the chicken.
The fried rice was very good. Not too greasy and a good flavor. The soup was also good, but nothing to write home about.
The restaurant does mean business when they say "spicy" so be careful. I think of myself as being able to handle spice well and a medium was just perfect for me. I think spicy would have been tolerable but not quite as pleasant.
All in all, a perfectly satisfactory experience, but I believe I will venture elsewhere for my Thai fix.
So I'll prefaces review by stating that we did takeout and food is always better served right from the kitchen.
We had a various selection entrees including vegatable cashew v13, red pad phed v12, ma muang e14 and spicy noodle v20. The portions were a good size although we could have used more rice. The ingredients seemed fresh and healthy but I didn't finish feeling like it was really good or had to have more. At $58 for takeout it's certainly on the pricier side but I will return to try eating in the restaurant next time.
My family has been coming here for years. This is a small family run Thai restaurant. The food is very authentic. Everything is well flavored, seasoned, and spiced just rice. They will gladly adjust the chilis to your request. The service is always excellent, friendly and conscientious. The food is flavorful and well done.
I decided on a recent day off that I was going to finally try Thai Ping…I'd heard so much about it and wanted to try it myself. When I arrived it was almost empty-about 1:30 so the lunch crowd was gone. Nice place, pleasant decor, menu was easy to figure out, and the server was very nice and helpful.
So I started with the shrimp gyoza and Tom Kha Gai soup…and the waitress talked me I to a Thai iced tea. The gyoza was a new one for me and I liked it very much. I think I was expecting just some chopped shrimp in a fried wonton, but it seemed like it was ground and mixed with some tasty herbs and spices-really, really delicious. Absolutely loved them…though a word of warning-they came out HOT, burned my mouth on my first bite. The soup-the soup was similar in flavor than most other places, but what I LOVED about this soup is that I asked for medium spice and the waitress actually said to me "you understand Thai medium, right?" I responded with a "yes" and finally got the correct spiciness! not the watered down American spiciness. Soup was nose running good!
For my main dish I ordered the Red Curry-medium again and with chicken. Portion size was very generous as I've usually gotten small servings at other Thai places. Bursting with flavors and excellent spiciness (glad I didn't get spicy). I usually don't like bell peppers, but this whole meal was done very well and I basically licked my plate.
I'll certainly be back to Thai Ping again because it was that good.
I happened to be in the area and stumbled into this place and what a pleasant surprise! The food was outstanding, much better than I expected.
I ordered the chicken kang karee, which was fantastic. They gave me a delicious salad and I also ordered the spring rolls, which were also totally solid.
If you are in the area, you should check this place out. You won't be disappointed!
