Thai Basil has excellent thai food.
I haven't been impressed with the thai offerings in the greater Hartford area but we were driving back from NYC this weekend and Thai Basil had great rating on Yelp so we decided to stop by. I'm glad we did. We had the yellow curry and the Pad See Eaw which were both very good. It had a bit of a kick but I hate bland thai food so it was just right for me.
I've eaten here a few times. Never had a disappointed meal. My latest visit, I craved for some noodle soup so I ordered Grilled Beef Pho. It wasn't really a pho in my opinion. Pho is a Vietnamese thing so it was more like a Thai beef noodle soup with some basil leaves in it. Anyhow, the broth was delicious and flavorful. Grilled beef was tender. I wish they used fresh noodle instead of dried rice noodle, but fresh noodle is difficult to obtain and it is a bit more pricey for restaurants' inventory so I tried to take that into consideration for this review. It definitely satisfied my craving. Grilled chicken from special lunch menu was very good as well.
Service was great. Our waitress was very friendly. This is my go-to Thai restaurant in stamford-Greenwich area. A downside is parking. Sometimes you need to circle around Greenwich Ave. for a bit to get a parking spot especially on the weekend.
This was a pleasant enough experience. I find Thai places very hit or miss – and most of them just "Asian fusion." Do I think this is the most authentic or the best Thai food I have ever had? Definitely not, but I would come again if I was in the area.
Service was good, atmosphere was nice and cozy, and the food was good. I clearly don't have many adjectives.
We ordered the chicken lollipop – the fried chicken was a bit on the dry side, but the sauce that it came with was delicious. Our entrees were the pad thai and the thai basil curry with shrimp. The pad thai was good but not great. It was way too sweet and just not savory enough. Definitely would not order it again, but the thai basil curry with the shrimp was absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection!
So a few misses but a hit here and there that made up for it.
This is my husband and my favorite Thai restaurant and it has become the place we judge all new to us Thai restaurants by.
We recently moved a bit further away (luckily I still work close by) and have yet to find somewhere that compares.
Since my last review we've really fallen in love with the mango curry chicken. It is the perfect match of sweet and spicy. All the vegetables in the dish are excellent as well- always so fresh and perfectly cooked.
Sometimes we'll both want it but still order two of them because it is so good leftover.
This is a solid choice for Thai, and right across the street from the the train is a plus. The food was delivered quickly and was surprisingly fresh. We asked for a thai hot spice on both the drunken noodles and fried rice – this usually still does not come out hot enough. However, we were warned no sending back if it was too hot, that's a good sign it would actually be hot and it was super hot and spicy… great job on that. The only complaint we ordered pork fried rice and got chicken.
This restaurant is very beautiful in decor . The staff is very friendly . I have to say the food is not good . There is no flavor to the food , large portion of food , a little above average price but absolutely no flavor . I wish I had cayenne pepper in my pocket book to layer on this bland mess that I had . I was feeling so deceived because it looked very beautiful but taste was way off . The pad Thai didn't even taste like the veggies were fresh , the broccoli was this nasty chewy consistency . I am so disappointed .
Best Thai food I've ever had
After reading some of the other reviews I notice most complaints are regarding service. I had great service during my visit and the waitress was very friendly.
What matters most here is the food…and it is unbelievably good. This blows other Thai restaurants out of the water. I got the drunken noodle "medium" spicy and it came with very little spice to it. If you like spicy foods just go all out and get the spicy dishes as recommended, they are not that spicy so don't be intimidated. They provide you with chili paste, chili oil and dry chili to spice your meal as you desire. You can even get fresh chopped peppers. The chili garlic oil they provide is amazing… my table nearly finished the jar of it. This chili oil in combination with the drunken noodle was mind blowing.
I need to come back to this place often as there is no other Thai place that can compare.
I quite like this place for the authenticity of the dishes. Any place that uses fresh chilly in their food cannot go wrong. I was actually challenged to try a dish "thai spicy" by the chef and didn't find it that spicy but was pleasantly surprised that it didn't kill the flavor of the food.
Not much I can say here other than it's a casual place with a nice enough menu for lunch and dinner with a decent wine list.
