There is no free wifi here. That might be the best part of Birdbath. The cinnamon toast was hard. The croissant was dense. The pastry with the nubs is not good enough. Drip coffee is all you're going to get. I have a small problem with open faced egg salad and smoked salmon sandwiches being assembled off site and then displayed with the pastries (out of the refrigerator). There's a sag in the floor that makes you wonder if you might collapse into the basement. Worse of all, it's dirty. At least you can be grateful that there's a mouse trap.
Came here to redeem a $5 Level Up credit (download the app to get yours too). They have some salads (overpriced at like $9/10), very large baked goods, and coffee.
I got the creme brulee french toast which was $5.44 after tax, rather pricey if you ask me. It was really sweet but tasty.
Rather empty on a Saturday afternoon. A handful of tables and looks like it'd be good for light reading or studying.
I am obsessed with this place! I happened to be in the neighborhood for a Flywheel class a couple Saturdays ago, and stumbled in hungry and in dire need of coffee. I was very pleasantly surprised!
So, what's so good about it?
– Salads: HUGE portions and delicious choices. They usually have a few different options you can choose from and you can mix and match them in your container. The small size is a large and filling portion, and is a steal at I think $9.50. I've had the roasted brussels sprouts and the roasted chicken, kale and corn salad and they're both delicious.
– Cookies: I am OBSESSED with the peanut butter cookie. The chocolate chip cookie was good, but not as good. Both were huge and incredibly satisfying.
– Service: Everyone is really nice and helpful when explaining the menu options. And, the servers aren't jerks when you don't know "the rules" of exactly how to order (which is the reason I can only eat Chipotle if I order ahead online… so much pressure!).
– Ambience: The music is nice and mellow. The space is tight, but you can usually find a place to sit, enjoy your food and coffee and watch the world go by.
Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area 🙂
My review is primarily for the BREAD. The bread is excellent. It's what keeps this place a destination for me. The sourdough and artisan ale my choices. The food, which I've eaten several times, can seem pricey, especially when accounting for portion size, and it's mostly vegetarian. It is very good – four stars, I give it. The sweets have been fine.

Everything here is really crazy good. Ugh, so good. I can't believe the size of the cookies here and how yummy yum yum they are. Also, besides the baked goods there are some really great healthy options and I partook of a really great veggie sandwich. It was all natural and contained all the right things.
I really also loved the box water here. Super adorable and great for the people who are environmentally conscience. Check it out on your next upper west side stroll.
Why is Birdbath a menu-free establishment? I didn't have a clue what anything was – especially their savory items, which were completely unmarked. The worker behind the counter had such a sweet and quiet voice that I couldn't quite hear her descriptions of items…and was I really expected to point at each sandwich or salad and ask what it was?
I should have been more insistent with the questions, because I wound up with a thing I did not care for: equal parts falafel and cilantro(!?), a pinch of carrot shreds, and some kind of dressing (I think), all sloppily deposited into the center of an inedibly greasy wrap thing…As I tried to tear away a piece of this limp greasiness, my fingers began to drop with oil. Since the whole mess was room temperature, I was reminded of a failed crepe or dosa, left to soak in day-old fat.
But I still held out for the pastries, which were good. I expected the pretzel croissant to be more pretzel-y, and I didn't expect the cinnamon-raisin breadthing to also feature some kind of apple compote – but silly me! How could I possibly expect to know what it was that I was eating?
Seriously, Birdbath, one menu wouldn't hurt your business, and the lack of one is inhospitable. They're doing very cute things in the UWS with chalkboards these days.
Vegan cookies! They only have two flavors and I usually just get the chocolate chip cookie. It tastes the same in every chain – chewy, soft, thin and big. Is it worth it for the price? It's the average $3/cookie charge which I find expensive.
I find it ironic that a place which boasts about being a "green" and "Eco-conscious" establishment has ONE vegan option. It's 2016. Most people are aware that the easiest way to have a lesser impact on the environment is to not consume any animal products.
Flimsy politics aside, Bird Bath's product is wildly overpriced, and not good. Their one vegan option, a chocolate chip cookie ($3.50), is mediocre and has a strange chemical aftertaste. Sort of like it was made with stevia, or something instead of real sugar. It wasn't terrible-the large chocolate chunks helped make it edible-but it was not good. I give two stars for their efforts, but with so many excellent bakeries in NYC, this place needs to step up their game.
