  1. This is a charming wine shop with a variety of European and domestic wines. The wines are displayed in a very inviting way. It isn't one of those crammed East Village spots where there isn't time or space to thoughtfully consider your options and food pairings. Most bottles here have handwritten notes explaining the highlights of the different options. Shopping here made me want to throw a dinner party.

    There's also liquor.

  2. Gotta agree with the hootch gang here.  Solid joint.  I was calling around to find a kind of bourbon I wanted.  They had it.  They let me pay for it over the phone, and they kept it on hold for me.  My schedule blew up, I wasn't able to pick it up for three days, and they were completely easy breezy Chuck E. Cheesy about it.  Friendly, peaceful energy to the store, stand apart from the local stores in energy and layout, looked like some really good selections which I'd love to explore further.

    Love the artwork, too!

  3. I used to live a few blocks from this place but was there the first time last Friday for one of their summer wine tastings.

It's a nice store..very open layout and everything looked new. Some liquor stores make you feel like you should be drinking out of a paper bag and that definitely wasn't the case here.

The wines are a pretty eclectic mix, but many of them had hand written cards on them with tasting notes, which was nice. The selection is good in the sense that they have wines from a variety of regions, but within a region they don't always have a ton of options. Breadth without depth, I guess. But I found some that looked interesting.

The tasting was nice – there was a guy set up by the door with four wines to try and he was knowledgeable about all of them. He and the staff did a good job of inviting people to taste and ask questions. The attendance ranged from 3 people to 15 while I was there so when it was empty it could have been awkward but wasn't.

When I went to pay, the person I was with had her credit card declined, and then mine was too. Something was obviously wrong with their system..which was a minor annoyance but there's an ATM right next door.

This isn't the place to go for a huge selection, especially on high end bottles or on liquor, but if you want a good store that will expose you to a good amount of new wines it's worth checking out. And I will definitely be back for a tasting.

  4. I've come here a few times to pick up some vino. Good selection, really clean, spacious, well organized and with various counties of origin, styles, flavors and price points so there's definitely something here for everyone.

Service could definitely be warmer, but I don't go to wine shops to make friends. Staff is knowledgeable and I've seen them assist people who don't know what wine to pick out when they enter.

Need wine? Astoria Wine and Spirits has got you covered.

  5. What a welcomed addition to Broadway. It's hard to believe that there aren't a few stores like this in the area.

The store is simple, balanced interior, perhaps we'll say "cute". The prices are just right and the selection is even better. The man who helped me was very knowledgeable about their selection and obviously proud of the store (this makes me happy). I tested his knowledge (although I don't know *that* much about wine and he passed with flying colors. If you're looking for a $7 Malbec that is super tasty – it's here. If you're looking for a $35 white that you're going to use to impress a host/ess of a dinner party – it's here. They also have some organic wines. And tastings on Friday!!

The price tags are handmade and they also have liquor. I can't speak too much about the prices on the liquor but I can't imagine they're bad.

I've been frequenting the wine shop at 34th Ave and 32nd St – BUT NO MORE. I have a new wine shop!

  6. The person working here was really knowledgeable and kind. He won't get up in your face if you're not looking for help though, which is cool.

There's a good range of prices here, which is also rad. Plus, there are simple and short descriptions on most of the wines, as well.

I'd say one thing this place could work on would be more decorations, or something. It feels a bit sparse.

  7. I've gotten my wine from various places around Astoria, but I have to say that this place is probably the best. The selection isn't huge, but they have a lot of nice choices to choose from. The people whole work there are super friendly and helpful and that is of HUGE importance when it comes to selecting wine in my opinion.
The employees there are so knowledgeable that they know how to suggest exactly what you are looking for, while fitting your budget.
