Luigi!
Come get some ice cream, stick your head in the shop to feel that cool breeze, or lay out on the chairs. The icees looked good, but I went full steam ahead for some ice cream. I tried the pumpkin pie, cappuccino crunch, and oreos. Everything was really tasty and I was craving more when I got home.
Come back to try all the flavors!
Margarita water ice. Birthday surprise ice cream. …it sounds like dreams are coming true. But you can actually eat this! And for under $5! I was super pleased with the flavor selection at this place and I think the only thing missing was a place to sit. Thankfully there was a bench outside of a bar across the street. My gf and I have been on a frozen treat bender so when the opportunity presented itself to get a dessert in this neighborhood, of course I was already salivating. The hardest part was choosing a flavor. Luckily I was allowed to sample them. I'm glad they gave me a small spoon so I was reminded to take my time. I tasted the birthday surprise that looked exactly like it's name and tasted even better!! A small cup of water ice was like $2.50 and really it was plenty and exactly what I needed. (I always think I need treats). I also think it's worthy to comment that the girl at the window was really sweet, polite and all smiles. Her tip jar said "for school books" which made me think, 'good for her' and leave my change…not enough for a book, but I admire her hard work. I digress, treats a plenty at this Brooklyn must stop!
Get a nice healthy scoop of Birthday Cake Bash with a waffle cone (~$5). You are welcome.
We grabbed ice cream from this place and it was OK but nothing amazing. I had the soft ice cream on cone and it was decent but too sugary. My friend had a scoop of mango flavored ice cream and it was nice. Overall not magical but OK icecream
Ordering Italian ice at Uncle Louie G brings back waves of wonderful childhood memories.
I grew up on the Italian ice's from Dolly's in Mill Basin, and to this day I still think about ordering that vanilla chip ice with my dad. While nothing can top those memories of Dolly's, Uncle Louie G is getting it pretty damn close. And that's saying a lot.
This is not your new-wave, all-organic ice cream shop. This is a classic, no-frills ice cream counter serving up Italian ice's the way the universe intended. And I'm just so happy it's walking distance from my place.
I've yet to branch out past the vanilla chip and spumoni (when it comes to Italian ice, I'm a person of habit,) but I'm looking forward to coming back as many times as my skinny jeans will allow.
And the girls at the counter are so sweet. They've got a tip box for college textbooks, and it's always a great feeling knowing your Spumoni is helping some cool ladies get their studying on!
Rock on, Uncle Louie G!
Uncle Louie is totally my favorite uncle.
He's got the nicest people working at his shops.
Huge waffle cones!
And how can you not love the variety of flavors – there's nearly 50 flavors of Italian Ices! My personal fav is the Pure Passion Fruit. More like pure fruity deliciousness. I usually take home a pint and I'm not ashamed.
Oh! And they just introduced a 'rewards card'. This is the best place for a summertime treat.
I'm going to be hanging with Uncle Louie G all summer long!
When I first waltzed up to the stand, I was disappointed because I wanted froyo so badly. Instead, I found the best Italian ice I've ever tasted.
Ordered a regular coconut ice. At first, I thought the woman made a mistake and gave me the coconut ice cream but soon realized I was wrong. The Italian ice was practically creamy. How they accomplished this I have no idea but wow, the texture was unbelievable. Chunks and flakes of coconut throughout, a refreshing tropical dessert.
A variety of different flavors and also only 50-90 calories, SCORE. Thanks for altering my perspective on Italian Ice Uncle Louie G!
So it is pronounced Louie G or Luigi? I'm asking here.
This friendly little walk-up window gets super busy in the warmer months, but nobody really cares unless you're the family that orders ices for 8 people. They have an astonishing list of Italian ices and ice cream. Some very unique flavors among the bunch.
Granted, the only flavor I usually get is cherry, because of the pieces of maraschino cherries in the ice, plus I like looking like a psycho clown with a crazy red stained mouth.
