Yay! Edgewater has a Farmers Market that started on 8/1 and looks like it will go thru Thanksgiving 2012. I popped over for a quick walk thru at lunch today and was very pleasantly surprised, even in today's scorching heat.
There was a vegetable vendor who had every type of vegetable and fruit at very reasonable prices. I think it's cash only so I was limited in what I could buy but the items I inquired about were very fresh and economical.
Bread vendor: YUM! His table had artisanal breads, including wheat, raisin walnut, four kinds of stuffed bread, muffins, baguettes, breadsticks …. all poppin' fresh and less expensive than Whole Foods.
Pickle vendor: His booth smelled great! Pickled beans, pickled cucumbers, etc. I am going back to see if he has pickled eggs (a habit I acquired in Central PA)
Apple Cake Vendor – Looked delicious!! I wanted to try the Apple Rum Cake but didn't have enough cash.
And something unusual! A vendor who specializes in Chocolate Covered Bacon and other tasty bacony treats!!!!!!!!!!!!! If it weren't so hot, I would have bought some to bring home but since I walked over, my treat would have melted immediately.
The Farmers Market is small but sweet as of today. I got a notice from my Condo Management Company that the market was open from 11:30 am to 6 PM every Wednesday but the Bread Vendor said that he was there at 10 am. I would check it out if I were passing by.
