Surprisingly, we found this Chikalicious Dessert Bar empty on an otherwise busy weeknight in the East Village. We met Chef Mieko, who was lovely and very passionate about her petite ice cream creations.
My friend and I tried 6/7 of their flavors. They are sold in sets of 3 for $8.50 ($9.25 after tax and they only accept credit card or exact change.) We skipped the black truffle since it was an additional $6, which is way too expensive to enjoy.
There are 3 layers in each little cup- cream, cake cubes, and a baby football scoop of ice cream. The cream is a semifredo, which is frozen like ice cream but light and fluffy like mousse. Mieko carefully selects different semifredo and cake flavors that will enhance the dessert experience. They were all different and definitely delivered to the taste buds. The added pistachio or walnut to the ice cream is also intentional.
The Granny smith and Sweet potatoe were my favorites. I wish they were sold in bigger cup sizes but I have a feeling that the primary intent behind Drop the MIC is to taste and appreciate the unique pairings, not to create the next big ice cream trend.

7 FLAVORS:
1. (green) Granny smith sorbet + white chocolate semifredo + calvados soaked cake — one of my top 2 favorites even though I typically don't like sorbets. Very refreshing. Must try for anyone who likes the taste of sweet apples!
2. (bright yellow-orange) Sweet potatoe ice cream + semifredo + orange cake — my other favorite! The orange flavor is strong and the texture is rich.
3. (pale yellow) Roasted banana ice cream + cacao nib semifredo + almond cake — supposedly the most popular flavor. My friend's favorite. Very rich cacao flavor and it took me a while to identify it in the cream since it did not look brown. Not too big of a fan of this one.
4. (pink) Pink grapefruit sorbet + brown sugar semifredo + grand marnier soaked cake — did not like this one. Very bitter.
5. (purple) Purple potatoe ice cream + sour cream semifredo + bourbon soaked cake — Mieko's favorite. It definitely had the starchy flavor and potato taste. I liked it.
6. (brown) Coffee milk sorbet + semifredo + sambuca soaked cake — often paired with the roasted banana. Didn't like this one.
7. (black) Black truffle ice cream + semifredo + cognac soaked cake — extra $6 because of the truffle. We did not try.
