Cold Stone Creamery

“The icecream was great, but the experience was greater.”

“The first Coldstone I ever went to was in Arizona, I fell in love with their specialty MUD PIE and never looked back.”

  1. Ice cream isn't bad, but I wouldn't make a special trip there for their expensive ice cream — all they do is scoop some ice cream, toss some toppings in the mix, and mix it around. Uhhh…I could do that too!

Very hearty and filling, because of all the toppings. It also melts quickly — at least in my experience, because once they scoop it out for you, it spends a lot of time being manipulated and that just allows it to melt faster. I rather have a sturdier bite of ice cream, considering I didn't order soft serve. So overall, this isn't for me.

Not the biggest shop, but has a little seating inside for those colder days/nights. During the milder days, it's fun to sit outside on the concrete sides, and just take your time, people watching.

    Nice people working!

  2. First timer at Cold Stone Creamery believe it or not. I lived in Elmhurst for almost 20 years and noticed Cold Stone open up in Queens Palace Center after Stern's Department store (formerly Macy's) closed down. For some reason I just never bothered going to Cold Stone even though I love ice cream. So I decided to try their "The Pie Who Loved Me" special and our friends tried a few others. Their "Birthday cake remix" was pretty darn good. The Pie Who Loved Me is made of cheesecake ice cream with graham crackers and another ingredient. It tasted pretty good but it is extremely heavy and thick.

I came here with my wife and 2 friends and realized the way they operate in here is a bit different from other ice cream parlors. It's almost like a ice cream bar where they mix your ice cream ingredients on a ice board. It's a interesting technique but time consuming that holds up the line. It's a cool idea, but it doesn't look very quick and efficient on hot summer days.

Verdict – Rich and creamy for sure but it's heavy! I could barely eat anything else afterwards. On the brighter side, the lady who made our ice cream was extremely nice but I just can't imagine this joint making each ice cream speciality by hand and using that ice board with each order. The wait time can seem a bit absurd for just ice cream and on another note; I wish their scoops were larger. Their waffle cones and bowls were gigantic and their scoop sizes were a bit mini to my standards.

  3. One of the few Coldstones in NYC that has an A grade but a chain is a chain is a chain.  Coldstone's prices in general are too high & they got rid of things I like (such as the signature "At the Copacabana Banana").  They also NEVER have discounts & even for your birthday club membership, they send you a "buy one, get one free" coupon that obligates your dining companion & you to eat the SAME type of ice cream.

What if one person wants to create their own & the other wants a signature?  What if you don't even have a significant other?  This "buy one, get one free" stuff on your birthday is just a slap in the face if you're single & not dating/living with anyone who will buy the first ice cream.

When we walked into this one some nights back, there was no one behind the register.  A person was in front of us wondering what the deal was with that.  Finally, we got helped and got our ice cream.  It seems they don't get a lot of business at night during the winter months so we didn't have to deal with crowding.

However, aside from corporate policies, my husband has told me about this particular location not being open at their claimed opening time so I do wonder what's going on with this particular location's management.

  4. I came.
    Waited on line.
    Two minutes tops.
    I ordered ice cream.
    She was quick.
    VERY quick.
    I like that.
    I was happy.
    I surprised my hunny.
    I conquered.

    THE END

  5. While this Coldstone Creamery is in a very central location in Queens Center Mall, it was very quiet when I came. There was only one other customer and inside wasn't as bright as other Coldstones that I have been too. However, the sales girl was very nice and made my Birthday Cake remix perfectly.

  6. Cold stone is some good ice cream. I don't eat it often but when I do its always a pleasure. I found this location to be in the perfect spot to pick up some ice cream when you are done shopping all around this area. The store could have been cleaner but It seemed like there were only two people working the entire store.. and both of them being busy nonstop does not leave time for maintenance, especially cleaning tables.

  7. I love me self some Coldstone Creamery, but this location seems to find ways to irritate me.

Super loud, club volume, pop music blasting into my ears as I'm working through my order in my head.  2 slow employees behind the counter.  One is extremely lethargic, uninterested, looks miserable.  The other, who served me, was kind so that makes up for his lack of energy.

The seating area was not clean.  Tables were covered in melted ice cream.  I suppose I should blame the customers for being sloppy ice cream piggies but then again, the staff should clean them (the tables not the customers).

Oh, and to make matters worse, while I ate my Oreo Overload, I was reading a Yelp review by a former employee at that location who gave it a 1 star and revealed lots of gross secrets…

Made me ask myself why I even stopped in.  If it weren't for the sinfully delicious taste of Coldstone, I'd give this place a 1.  Will I come back?  Only if there's no line and I have a strong craving.

  8. We frequent this Cold Stone for many years when we want an ice cream cake for birthdays and special occasions.

This weekend we stopped by again for another birthday cake!
We picked one of their pre-made layer cakes from the freezer a lemon cake with gummy fruit pieces on top and sprinkles on the side. ($29.99) I was pretty good. Rate it 4/5.

Tip- the store is located on the ground floor of the mall on the outside.
Parking is not easy. There are mostly metered parking but if you go across the street (Queens Blvd) it is easier to find both metered spaces and free spaces.
