  1. If you're gonna go to Grand Bakery, make sure you try their sausage bun, especially when it's fresh in the morning! I used to come here and eat all the time when I went to the school that used to be next door. I had their iced lemon tea, hot lemon tea and a whole bunch of other food and they were all good. You won't be disappointed!

  2. I prefer Grand Bakery over New Great Bakery, 2 doors down!!

NOTE: the sign outside says "Grand 1 Bakery" so don't get confused!

pineapple custard bun time: the filling was perfectly sweet & the almond-cookie crust wasn't too crumbly!! the bread was still SOFT even though i ate it a day later!

i still prefer the egg yolk paste filling BUT this is a great option especially at 80 cents each!

  3. Similar to other bakeries in chinatown, nothing special, but the prices are cheap.  There cake designs are pretty simple and there selection is not as large as Tai Pan.
I went here to get the sesame balls and the sponge cake, which are decent.

  4. We came here on a Sunday afternoon and while they weren't closing anytime soon, the lights were dim which really didn't add to the appeal of their breads and pastries. Our goal was to get a taro bun as some sites had suggested that the taro bun was quite good here. Also, it was only $1. When we got our individual buns, they were even a bit warm which was quite hopeful. I was thinking they'd be super fresh.

Unfortunately, they were not anything different or even that good compared to the average taro bun I've tried. There was a small taro to bread ratio and the bread did not taste fresh or that soft. The one redeeming feature was that the taro was not that sweet and I guess I wouldn't doubt the freshness of the taro itself.

  5. I was walking by there today and was drawn inside by their appealing display.  The place seemed very clean (they have an "A" rating from the Health Department) and their prices are a *steal*.  They had huge almond cookies for only $1/each, so I bought all three.  I also bought a "pan" with several sticky rolls that have raisins and a sweet filling, for only $1.65 – and both items were very tasty.

The young woman behind the counter only spoke a limited amount of English, but she was very friendly.
