This place is truly a hidden gem. I was originally craving tiramisu so I stopped by this Bakery in between work. It ends up that they only sold Tiramisu as a whole but I gave their cookies and pastries a try and they were of superb quality. Just like every other italian bakery, there is a wide selection. I felt lik a kid in a candy store.
The only drawback is that the lady server there wasn't too nice. They treat locals better than outsiders like me. The owner needs to hire someone that cares more about customer service.
I am so lucky to have this local bakery just up the block from me! This place is definitely a hidden gem of a bakery. In the past 70+ years, this section of Maspeth was heavily populated by Italians and Irish immigrants and some of the best Italian bakeries are along Grand Ave.
I love their breads, especially when I want a good loaf of sour dough bread. For $2.95 I get a freshly baked large 14-inch load sliced thin. Yummy! There pastry is very good also.
Can you imagine a huge loaf of yummy chewy fresh bread that is made that day for less than $3?
Well, it's here at Palermo. AWESOME!
There is also yummy looking and smelling pastries that I was trying to avoid. But if you don't care about calories and what not, you would say to me, "Forgetaboutit just get the darn pastries!!!!!!"
I'm very surprised that there are not too many reviews for this place…
as it stands there are not too many italian style bakeries in this area unless you are willing to trek to Lety's over in Jackson Heights…
As it stands this palce is a traditional Italian style bakery with sugar cookies and canollis and lobster tails. They are honestly the best in the surrounding area and as it stands even compared to other places the pastries here are still on par.
As a warning, this store is not very large and has no seating area and so it is a place where you will pretty much have to take things to go but there are a few nice areas to sit at and a few parks nearby that are acceptable places to get your treats.
Finally as with Isabel, the workers here are not as nice as they could be, but youre not coming here to be catered to and it is not a restaurant.
