  1. I found this bar/caffe while out exploring a different part of Brooklyn than my normal 'hood.
It's a very small cafe but cute and cozy. They offer a good amount of beer on draft and have some interesting cocktails.
I used the yelp "check-in" feature and was treated to a free shot and pickle back. It's a little confusing because their pickle backs are not pickle backs but their own house made concoctions. I chose the Rye with a curry carrot and raisin Manechevitz back. It was really interesting and I think sets this bar separate from other small bars.

  2. Update: The best cappuccino around and the friendliest staff, day or night. I still think it's better as a coffee shop than bar because of its size.

They often have funny coffee/liquor specials for $5-6 — follow their Instagram.

  3. This feels like a coffee shop to me, but it's a bar. Had a couple sazeracs. Although they were strong, they tasted a little lacking in the licorice department (maybe no absinthe here?). Nice temperature, though. Cool staff and overall friendly vibe for a neighborhood spot. Also got a shot of whiskey with a curry-raisin-carrot back – intense but enjoyable.

  4. My boyfriend lives in the neighborhood and this is our go-to bar when we want to get out of the house or after we take the pups to night park. When the weather is nice, you can sit outside with your furry friends and enjoy some libations with Rover.

The inside of the bar (which is more of a coffee shop that boozes it up at night) is small, but a diverse and friendly local crew cozies up to enjoy some night caps together. The mixed drinks are very good and there are choices like Modelo if you do not want to break the bank.

The have grown up pickle backs – a shot with an assortment of tasty chasers. Last I saw, you can check in on Yelp and try one on the house.

  5. Situated on a dead-end street, this is the kind of "Cheers" place in your neighborhood that's always trustworthy. Very small inside but cozy.  So tiny in fact you shouldn't come here expecting a seat. No matter the weather, people are always overflowing onto the outside.

The bartender is a true mixologist and does not disappoint. Despite having an extensive list of cocktails, I like that he can improvise and create a whole new drink based on your preference or mood. Quality ingredients and bottles. Friendly service. Prices are reasonable.

Essentially, come here when you want your drink to feel like a treat.

  6. Hands down, the best neighborhood bar I've been to in NYC. A decent-sized group of us stopped in late one Saturday night and came to find ourselves in the midst of a street water gun fight with Erv's on Beekman serving as a base and refill station for at least some of the kids.

We sadly did not have any water guns on us at the time and therefore did not participate in the battle, but we did have some drinks! Erv's boasts an extensive menu of $12 drinks with plenty of interesting ingredients, which could easily go for $15 in Manhattan. I ordered what I believe was called the Stormy Phuc, not only because it's fun to say but because I just cannot get enough of blackstrap rum these days. It's so good. In this drink, the combination of the blackstrap and ginger was genius. (Erv's doesn't have a menu online so unfortunately I can't list the rest of the ingredients.) The drink was served in a highball glass and happily seemed to last forever.

The interior is very small, so we didn't all have a seat, but we were an abnormally large crowd. I'd imagine that on an average night, Erv's is able to accommodate all patrons looking to come in and feels cozy but spacious enough. The bartenders were extremely friendly. Definitely a place to which I'd gladly return.

  7. Places like Erv's make me want to move back to Brooklyn. This feels like a hole in the wall in the best way possible. Very cozy, and really sweet and efficient bartenders.

Happy hour drinks are just $8 and they are very well made. Small bites are affordable and tasty! Highly recommend for groups or a solo night out. Will come again!

  8. If you are in the area and need a pit stop for some coffee or a cocktail, definitely check out Erv's.  We were trying to warm up a bit post ice skating in Prospect Park and found this little gem.  It's a very cozy hipster spot once you step inside so don't get scared off when you turn into Beekman street, seeing there's basically nothing else around.  What was even better was that it happened to be happy hour on a Saturday for a few of their cocktails including old fashioned drinks. Such a win!

If you check into yelp, you also get a free shot! Why not!
