Might just be the best bagels in all of NJ! My everything bagel was warm, soft & chewy with great flavor & texture. I got the lox cream cheese spread & it was fresh, not salty & delicious. The place is very clean. The staff isn't warm but are efficient & fast. I also got an egg bagel with butter & my coworker said its the best bagel he's had since he grew up in Staten Island & Brooklyn.
There really is no other bagel place better than Bagel Boy. I grew up in the area, and came here pretty frequently, but now that I live near DC, I take advantage of trips home. My standard order growing up was a sausage, egg, & cheese sandwich on an egg bagel, but since I've left the area and realized that pork roll is not available at your average deli, I've had to change my order to a pork roll, egg, cheese. Clearly you can't take the Jersey out of this girl! Both sandwiches are awesome & their bagels are amazing. They also have a great deal on day-old bagels. They usually pre-package a half dozen assorted bagels from the day before and have them in a basket towards the back of store. I bought a dozen the other day for $3.50. You can freeze them and reheat them at your leisure & they taste just as good. I seriously can't get enough of this place, and can't wait to make another trip there when I go home!
Having read so many good reviews of Bagel Boy, I finally had to give them a try.
When I arrived, I could not believe how long the line was. I almost bailed. But I'm glad I didn't because I ended up eating one of the better pork roll, egg, and cheese sandwiches that I've had in a long time.
The PEC seems simple enough for any halfway decent bagel establishment to get right. But it's the little things that matter most, like, the thinness of the meat — can't be too thin, and definitely not too thick. It has to be just right. And it has to be cooked just long enough to provide a little crispiness in every bite. Oh, and one slice of cheese won't cut it. A proper PEC uses melty American Cheese to separate each layer of magnificent fat and grease. And here's a tip — have some more grease with your grease: ditch the ketchup for a schmear of mayo and hot sauce, and don't forget the salt and pepper to perfect this decadent, artery-clogging masterpiece.
Now if they get all of that right, then it comes down to the bagel. And a proper PEC should be prepared on an everything bagel. I'll admit I was immediately ready to walk when I realized Bagel Boy commits the ultimate sin by only putting the bagel seasoning on one side of the bagel. I hate that. That's not a bagel. That's a roll with a hole in it. Gahh! Minus 1 star.
But I stuck it out because I had the little ones in tow and they were hungry, and so was I. My frustration at the amount of time it took to make our order was luckily offset by the beautiful girls working behind the counter, smiling and greeting each customer as they moved down the assembly line. That's a nice touch given that the place feels like a trading floor on a Black Friday.
My sandwich was excellent. The kids enjoyed their bagels. And extra points for carrying Martinelli's apple juice, which was a staple of mine all the years I lived in NYC. I wouldn't make a special trip out here for breakfast or bagels. But I'd definitely come back if I was hungry and headed in this direction.
Great spot to get your eat on especially early in the morning. This is where my co worker gets her bagels in the morning to drop it off in our work lounge area. My favorite here is the garlic bagel. They can add a little more garlic in it though. You can never have too many garlic I think.
You wanna start the morning right, go here if you live near the area. You dont believe me? Ask the Old Bridge cops who always hang around here. Oh yeah space wise, its so big in there, you can play flag football.
Excellent bagels, excellent hours. It's in a great location and they are always baking something. The bagels are extremely fresh, doughy, and have terrific flavor. I've also had their bakery items and they are something not to forget! Their spreads are also very good.
They are also always busy. The lines are usually to the door but they keep people moving so that helps out a lot during its morning rushes. The northeast has a plethora of bagel shops so there's never an occasion to feel really disappointed, but this one hits the nail on the head.
They also cater, and I totally recommend using them for your next gathering or luncheon!
