A Wykagyl institution…..a place where rabbis, opera stars, jazz musicians, geriatrics, and regular folks come to eat. Lea and Angelo, the husband and wife team who have operated Donut World since it opened in the mid 70's are always there with a smile. I always get the same thing…very simple, yet elegant and delicious….egg and cheese on a roll with home fries. Angelo puts a little bit of butter on the roll then fried or scrambled egg with a slice of cheese. Not sure why, but it is without doubt the best egg and cheese on a roll I have ever had. The home fries are exceptional…boiled then fried on the griddle. They go perfectly with the sandwich…sometimes I have the home fries on the sandwich….either way you can't go wrong. I like to put the ketchup on myself. Donuts are good, but they don't make them themselves anymore. Oh, they also do a nice job on burger and fries. Nothing fancy…but great place to grab some coffee or breakfast on the run.
