  1. Good size bagels with a large menu of non bagel items. They're open through lunchtime and aim for a deli feel. Pretty large place that's more inviting to sit and eat inside of then your average bagel spot. My favorite bagel is Super Cinnamon Raisin and they do it pretty well here. I've never gotten much other then run of the mill breakfast sandwich or bagels to go, but everything has always been made perfectly. Wife loves the home fries. Seeing Boars Head is always a reassuring sign of quality. This is my spot for this side of town.

  2. Easy to miss on route 18 N. Their hoagies are really good and an even better deal. You can choose macaroni salad or chips for under $8. The service is rushed and with a frown or grimace I should say. I love tuna salad and was severely let down by their version. The prepakaged tuna salad is better. Stick to their cold cuts and you are safe. I have also had the italian and this was pretty decent.

There is plenty of seating and even during lunch rush when it quickly get crowded there always seems to be an empty table. To the left before yu place you order is a large wall to wall refrigerator with drinks and many other items.

This is an easy spot for a quick lunch.

  3. On weekends when no one wants  to make breakfast or lunch this is the best place to be. There bagels are delicious.  Crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. I love their lox, vegetable cream cheese on an onion bagel YUM!!  Even there BEC OR PEC sanwiches are awesome. Their pannins/wraps are really fresh, nothing sits around. The home fries and french fries are krispy crunchy yumminess. Even there subs are really good. They use Boar's Head cold cuts. My fave is Western Omelet with cheese on a everything bagel. Even there lunch is really good. Never had one of their home made salads YET. Been going there for awhile. Even any flavor bagel with their vegetable cream cheese is a happy mouth. I keep trying to have different things when I go there but the stomach wants what the stomach wants. I keep alternating between 3 things, although I've had other things which are really delicious. The place has a decent amount of seating and is very very clean. They are constantly cleaning this place

  4. Feeding 4 hungry people with appetites as big as Texas is no small feat. We all had bagels and sandwiches with drinks for $22. Steal? I think so.

And on top of that, they were really good.

  5. After building up an appetite at nearby Phillips Park in Old Bridge, I stopped by this smart looking place on Route 18. Very busy but I scored a spot out front. Walked in and marched over to the ORDER HERE sign. The gal behind the counter seemed irritated and pointed me elsewhere. Oh well…

Placed my simple order which came right out. Toasted onion with butter. Paid the irritated employee and crunched in the car. Pretty good bagel but it was merely warmed up instead of toasted. I hate when that happens.

Plenty of other places on this stretch of 18. Next time I'm down this way, I'll go elsewhere.

  6. Ok, I'm breaking my own rule here by giving a bagel shop a 5 star review that isn't The Bagel Store in Williamsburg, Brooklyn — which is undoubtedly the best bagel shop on the planet. But since I don't live in Brooklyn anymore, I've been hard-pressed for years to find the next best place, and Brunswick Bagels is officially it.

While I do indeed still love the everything flat bagel at Manhattan Bagels in Spotswood, I can't seem to pull myself away from Brunswick Bagels. Along with their superior bagels, they also have an outstanding grill — the kind of flat top grill you find in better delis in New York City. And since I've had to cut back on my bagel intake, I still enjoy a good breakfast wrap from time to time, and these guys have perfected it.

I'm not a huge fan of eggs, but I like getting a little protein in the morning, so one egg scrambled with onions and peppers will suffice for the first layer. The second layer, of course, must be pork roll, which they slice thin and grill up crispy here. (Which I'll skip when I'm on my vegetarian kick.) The third layer is your standard slice or two of American cheese — provolone if you want to be fancy. And from time to time I like to go all Rutgers style and have them fill the rest of the void with their french fried potatoes. Finish it off with salt, pepper, and hot sauce, and you have yourself the most awesome little breakfast burrito. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Since I've been coming here several things have improved, and it's apparent because the place is always doing a booming business. For one, the coffee is much better than I remember. I'm an iced coffee guy, and the dude who makes the ice coffee prepares it fresh and such that it's cold, bold, and not watered down. And he always stops by to check to see that I'm enjoying it. (Probably because I complained in my previous review, but hey, I love it now!)

Secondly, the service is excellent. They now split the line into two when it gets crowded and are very efficient at taking orders down. The grill guys work their asses off to crank out bacon, eggs, sausage, and pork roll, and I believe they are now serving up French toast, too. You may have to wait a few minutes for your meal be served, but it's never a long time, and it's worth the wait because they always get it right.

I'm also impressed with how much seating they have and the fact that people won't linger when they see others in need of a table. I like to eat in so I can enjoy my food while it's still hot. And I've never had an issue getting a seat.

The only issue I sometimes have is with the parking lot, which in very rare cases can get so crowded that you have to wait for a spot. And then there are the idiots who park on the front curb and make it dangerously impossible for others to see traffic while trying to pull out onto Route 18. One way to avoid this is to park in the McDonald's next door — especially if you are coming south and don't want to turn around on 18. (Shhh….)

All in all though, this is my go-to place for breakfast. Dying to come in and try them for lunch and see how they do the rest of the menu.

Oh, and extra bonus — they DELIVER!

  7. As I mentioned before, I thought I was too harsh in my first review, so I'll revise a bit.

The lox and cream cheese are still okay, but then I went back the next day and got whitefish with a bagel and had a much better experience. The bagel is still a bit small, but the whitefish was very good. Plus I got macaroni salad with my order. A nice add.

A small update too. J.K's appears to have closed, but if so, this isn't a bad alternative at all.
