Starbucks

“Best part of this one – it's right outside the 6 train on 96th, so we love to get our drinks and then head downtown!”

“The cons is that they have limted outlets and close to a high school and middle school so packed withh those annoying kids high off sugar from around 2-6.”

“I don't know what the point is to be rude to someone who is doing their job as ably as possible, but there they are from early mornings to late nights.”

  1. I know I know… Reviewing a Starbucks??? And positively?!?! What is wrong with me?  Well perhaps I am just a neighborhood chauvinist but this Branch is a little bit special. The staff are friendly and they usually work the line efficiently. It feels like a real neighborhood cafe with a diverse cross-section of residents above and below 96th, Mt. Sinai workers and commuters transiting from subway to bus.

  2. They took out the display in the middle of the floor. This Starbucks has more room now when it gets busy. They added a couple stools to a counter. I like that coffee counter feel.

It's still a prime location at 96th and Lexington. It's always crowded.

There's not much you can say about Starbucks. They are all the same to me. It's hit or miss on any day.  It may be clean at the tables or may not. Prime seats are always taken by people setting up their office there!

I say get what you came for and go!

  3. This is one of the better Starbucks out there. I know they have a standard recipe for their drinks in all locations, but this one makes them better. It's literally right on top of the 6 train 96th St station! So convenient. The only thing is I wish they had a monitor that has the song names and artists that they play throughout the day. Seating gets filled up fast here.

  4. This is one of the Starbucks that I go to on a consistent basis to pick up my usual caramel macchiato. Service here has been decent overall, but today it was just horrible. Not only did my cashier (Carlos) write my name down on the wrong cup (I paid for a venti and I what got appears to be a tall instead) but the barista that made my drink didn't even fill my drink up completely.

  5. Friendly & welcoming staff.  La Boulange pastries glisten in the glass window and the lady working there was easily approachable and efficient in taking my order.  I got a Tall Hot Chocolate which was divine!  The long lines are obliterated by the quick service.  It is a close place right next to the 6 train station.  I do have one minus, which is today was 9 degrees Fahrenheit, and somehow, it was pretty drafty in there, so I decided to go somewhere else to finish reading my book.

  6. Not impressed, but this the most convenient coming off the train so I have no choice unless I walk 4 blocks. I get he same iced soy latte drink every time but it's spilling all over or only filled 4/5 of the way.  However the baristas are really nice. They call each person by name and keep it moving quickly which is pleasant on a busy morning.  The espresso itself is never completely right, tastes a tiny bit burned but I drink it anyways.

  7. When this Starbucks opened, I said "Do we really need another Starbucks coffee shop?!"

But now I realize that is a perfect place for a Starbucks. There is another one two blocks west, but this one is right next to the 96th St subway. It also has ample seating, which I think is required for Starbucks.

  8. Ordered my daily grind: a Tall French Roast instead of the Pike Place blend of the Freshly Brewed Coffee. As usual and expected, rich and bold.

I see the napkin, sugar and milk station is maintained and fully stocked/clean.

Facing the counter, which has the usual selection of baked goods and cold drinks are two sides with basic seating and another side with a bed board like back which gives the seating area a nice comfortable touch.

I think you need to buy something to use the restroom unless you catch a staff member extra nice because of the sign that says Restroom is for customers only and has a PIN entry.

Not too busy a few hours before the New Year. But not exactly empty either.
