When I can get a car, I try to drive here for grocery shopping. The parking lot is HUGE, and I've always been able to find a decent spot.
Likewise, the supermarket is large, with wide aisles. The produce section was very good in terms of selection and quality. The prices I guess were okay, depending on the product. As I always say, it is good to shop around and compare.
The baked goods section is pretty good, with a nice selection of cookies, cakes, and breads. On my last trip there, I some really good ciabatta rolls. They were great for making sandwiches and mini pizzas.
On the subject of sandwiches, the deli section is decent.
The meat section is very good, and, if you keep your eyes open, you can catch some great bargains, especially on family sized portions.
They have a great selection of beers.
And, of course, you can get all the staples (milk, coffee, eggs, drinks, etc.)
The supermarket recently was renovated, and they did a good job. The store is clean and well-organized.
If I could, I'd definitely shop here more often!
I love this place. They always have good sales on healthy items like egg whites, fresh vegetables and fruits. The isles are wide and organized. If you have any questions they go out of their way to answer your questions.
Truth be told, I only came here for the beer selection, which is absolutely phenomenal. It's really large and they have lots of stuff you may not find elsewhere, as I assume beer lovers don't really come here to beer shop.
I do recommend getting a mixer sixer. They have 6 pack holders and you fill it up with beers from a section that has a good selection. It lets you try tons of beers instead of having to buy a six pack of just one beer.
Best Market is a pretty good supermarket in this part of Astoria. Produce looks fresh with decent pricing. Chicken, beef, pork about average pricing with weekly deals on various meats. Always some specials on can goods.
Best Market is exactly what I look for in a supermarket. Clean, decent price points and weekly deals. What more can you say. Has a good size parking lot and oh yes; across the street from Singlecut Brewery. This is not my go to market, but serve's my needs when in the area.
I bought a prepackage tuna sushi roll the other day and it was good. It was tasty and at $4 not a bad deal. Eight pieces, wasabi, pickle ginger, soy sauce, chop sticks and I was set to go for a light snack.
Deli section a little weak for my taste. Very average. Pre-made salads are very tasty, but very pricey for the area. This is not a Whole Foods market.
They have a hot and cold buffet for lunch. Standard meals. Nothing special. I think it was about $6 a pound. They seem to do a busy lunch crowd business. There is nothing in this part of Astoria as far as quick affordable food options. You have Rikers, Con Ed and various other businesses to feed.
Overall, Best Market is a very solid supermarket. May not have the bell and whistles of other supermarkets in the area, but as long as this location has fresh produce, meats, bread, etc. with competitive prices I will support. Did I say Singlecut Brewery is across the street.
This has always been my go to supermarket in the Astoria area. It never seems to be insanely packed which I definitely appreciate. My toddler loves the miniature shopping carts they have available for the kiddies. They also have an amazing craft beer variety. The store has been undergoing some major renovations and the place looks great. I really am excited for it to be finished. They seem to be creating a little seating area (the place has tons of freshly made packaged foods). Prices are always great, I love the 5 for 20 deals (they usually have tons of meat options included like hamburger meat, chicken breast etc.)
Oh how I adore Best Yet! It's like being back in the suburbs. The aisle are wide and clean and you don't have to jostle everyone around you to get to the produce you want. They're always well stocked, and they have a fantastic make your own 6-pack craft beer selection. The parking lot is great and convenient also and their hours are the best in the area (given that Berry Fresh closes at 9pm). It's my go-to grocery store even if it is a bit out of the way. Worth it though for the lack of grocery-shopping-related-anxiety the other stores have.
Local supermarket in Astoria. I mostly use it for the hot and cold buffet for lunch. Overall the store has a great selection of fresh produce and other specialty items, like hot sauces. The hot buffet changes daily, with a few every day items, and the food is cooked well and is reasonably priced.
I'm pretty picky when it comes to markets. I make my husband shlep me to Fairway, Trader Joe's and Stew Leonard's on a whim, because I'm constantly disappointed by Astoria grocery stores.
We ventured to Best Market tonight, and I have to say, I give it a solid B rating. The fresh produce was a little hit or miss, and the cheese selection was deceptive — great presentation, not the best or most exciting selection.
Those two little dings aside, there were so many positive factors. I don't really eat sweets, and certainly wouldn't buy ice cream because I just don't need it, but they sell Coolhaus, which is pretty much one of the best, most delicious brands of all time. I was also very impressed by their packaged food options for whole wheat, gluten free, etc.
We didn't buy a ton — some fresh produce, whole wheat pasta, and dairy — and ended up spending $101. Not cheap, but honestly, the quality was good enough that I'm fine with the cost.
We'll definitely trek back to Best Market, but I won't be ditching my other favorites.
