4 star average!?
I have been wanting to try this place for quite a while and now the weather's warming up so off to Twist it Top it we went!
Samples here are locked down like Fort Knox. I never sample and leave but this place made me want to. They send an employee out to make you a sample (this could be because the machines are tough to use – more on that later). But you have to keep asking for different flavors. I felt bad asking just for 2 samples!
I never sample the Plain because that's always good… or is it? Not here, it's just weird. Its not tart and not sweet, just weird. The Salted Caramel was good and so was the White Chocolate Macadamia (think good humor almond bar). But the Pistachio and Plain were subpar.
The machines… you pull the handle down HARD to get it started and when you let go, it release a quick 4 inch pump of yogurt into your dish, WOW so shady. At least they tare the cup weight here…
I was waiting for the day a self serving frozen yogurt place would open up near my home. I love the toppings they have here to put on top of your yogurt. There are way to many to mention. They are all good and their sliced fruits are very fresh as well. I love the raspberries! They have a great assortment of flavored yogurt flavors you can try before you buy as well. Plus they have plenty of fat free flavors that you'll never know the difference and some sugar free ones too. The prices are about the same as any other yogurt place I have been to and this place is super clean with nice tables to sit at and relax with your dessert. The staff here is really nice to deal with.
Twist It! Top It! Bop It? wait, no, that was a terrible toy from the 90s…
while the Queens Bully / Austin Street scene is drowning in a zillion froyo and ice cream places, the selection for cold sweet treats further south is a little more sparse. Eddy's is always packed; Carvel is always empty; La Dolce bakery is decent for their gelato, but closes early on weekend nights. thus, on our occasional weekend night walks, we end up at Twist It Top It.
unlike the big chain froyo places, there isn't that odd chemical taste to the froyo here. it's serve-yourself, and they are always glad to let you try samples of the flavors. Nutella, cookies-and-cream, cake dough, and pistachio are my favorites, but so far everything I've tried (read: everything but coconut) has been great.
the toppings bar is pretty decadent here. all sorts of candies (broken up Twix, Reeses, Kit Kats, etc), chopped up cookies and cakes, mini pretzels, mini boba, granola, nuts, mochi, fresh fruit, even cereal and various syrups! holy flavor combinations, Batman!
the prices here are by weight, and it's not that expensive. they have a rewards card that you can earn points on each time. the staff are friendly.
the interior of this place is modern, clean, and comfortable. it's usually busy on weekend nights but not hectic, they're open quite late, and they even have outdoor seats when it's nice out.
I generally try to stay clear of The Summertime Froyo Invasion, but this is a welcome addition to the usually-sleepy Metropolitan Avenue scene, and I'm hoping it sticks around!
If you want something lighter, or if Eddie's is too crowded, then there is finally a great option on Metropolitan.
This place is just as good, if not better, than the major chain places. They have 14 great flavors, such as Peanut Butter, Cookies & Cream, Cake Batter, and the usual good sweet stuff you'd expect, as well as some you don't typically see, like Milky Way.
They also have a ton of toppings, with most in the usual toppings bar format, as well as several more in containers that you can shake onto your yogurt.
The staff was very friendly and willing to give out plenty of samples, which is key for the self serve places. I will definitely be stopping here for dessert any time I happen to be in the area from now on.
Finally a fro yo place near by! I've been to the other Twist It Top It location in Howard Beach, so I was so excited when I saw the sign go up. A vibrant and modern spot to grab something sweet and hang out for awhile. There are about 15 flavors of fro yo available and tons of toppings to choose from. Everything from fresh fruit to nuts to cereal to rainbow cookies. It's creamy and delicious and it opened just in time for the warm weather.
Staff was friendly and quick. They also have a rewards card, so be sure to sign up for one towards some free frozen yogurt.
We were excited to try as other locations had been good. When we walked in the people behind the counter didn't even look up and weren't extremely friendly. There were two completely different menus of flavors posted… Which was weird… And for both menus many of the flavors "we dont have." The chocolate was very good (hence the two stars). The birthday cake was okay but too sweet to have a whole scoop. My sister got the snickers which literally tAsted like vanilla mixed with graham cracker crumbs and maybe some chalk. It was one of the weirdest and blandest flavors of ice cream either of us could remember having in some time… And certainly not snickers (you know… Which typically has chocolate… And caramel… And peanuts… Basically everything this vanilla ice cream didn't have…)
A while ago we stopped over at the Howard Beach location. We were on our way home from Jersey and had my pup with us. Not only was the yogurt amazing, but the owner actually came outside with a cup full of water for my puppy! So sweet!
Anyways, on to this one…My boyfriend and I had gone to dinner in the area and wanted something sweet and I got almost giddy at the realization that a Twist it, Top it had opened up! I got the Nutella and Peanut Butter flavors and my boyfriend got Cake Batter and Cookies and Cream. All flavors were deliciously smooth and creamy. Out of all of the froyo places I've tried, this is hands down the absolute best. Now all they need to do is open one up in northern Queens and I'll basically be living there!
