  1. Definitely came here to try out the baklava everyone's raving about. I love baklava- one of my favorite desserts. I think I'm used to eating them from a Greek place, where there's more crispy phyllo on top, so I was a little disappointed here.

    I tried their mixed nuts and pistachio baklavas. They were both really sweet, which is pretty normal for baklava. The mixed nut one had a sponge cake bottom, a pretty big layer of nuts and chewiness, then only like two layers of phyllo on top. The pistachio one was sweeter even, and didn't get to taste much pistachio. Mixed nuts one was better.

    They were decent, pretty small pieces, and it's cheap here! I got 8 pieces for only $6. They weigh by the pound.

  2. Chocolate Baklava.

    The Brooklyn branch of Nablus Sweets would be the first non-Greek establishment where I've tried the Chocolate Baklava. I would have loved it even more if the chocolate had been darker and of higher cocoa content (it would contrast well with the Pistachio filling) or served as one of the many layers, but still the Baklava is good and flaky.

    I would normally not review another branch of Nablus (beyond the flagship one in NJ), but another review is merited for the fact that the two don't share the same kitchen and have slightly different desserts available, the Brooklyn branch carrying a larger proportion of western cakes and pastries as well. I was pleasantly surprised to see two warm trays of Aziza and Shehad emerge from the kitchen for I had suspected that all the baking would be done in the NJ location. There were also different/additional choices available for the Harissa (the semolina cake) and the refrigerated case also had the rice pudding (Rizb bil haleeb) and the Muhallabiya that I've not found in the NJ location during my few visits. The Muhallabiya was in fact so light that I wondered whether I had gotten the sugar free version!

    I still prefer the NJ location, which probably sees more turnover and foot traffic. Not to mention that while the service is competent in the Brooklyn branch, it lacks the warmth of the staff at the New Jersey outlet.

  3. I always go here when I am in Bayridge.  Its conveniently located to all of my grocery shops that I go to. Although I prefer homemade or Laziza in Astoria Queens, this place comes close to home.  They have everything you can think of in Nablus from ma3mool, Baklava, almond cookies, Moroccan chebakia, awamat and my favorite item, BASBOUSA!  I

    The basbousa does have a little bit too much syrup and the syrup itself is kinda heavy. Someone mentioned it might be corn syrup and I agree that it has that type of texture but WHATEVER! I like my arabic sweets drenched in syrup and sweet!

    Like I mentioned the pastry shops off Steinway in Astoria are better but this is a good spot to try if you are around.

    NOTE: I've noticed during ramadan the quality is better, maybe because they have more traffic. Also one of the servers is always cranky. Don't mind the attitude, she's not that bad! lol

  4. Exactly what you expect. Get the Konafa or Konafeh or Kenafeh or Kenafa or however the hell you want to spell it.

  5. Best (if not the only) Middle Eastern pastry shop that I know of.

    Nablus is a unique pastry shop that offers a variety of freshly baked Middle Eastern pastries.

    Everything is made fresh and baked in house, you can choose a variety of a pastry's to enjoy with some Tea or coffee… their middle eastern desserts are all unique and most likely nothing like any other pastry you have tried before.

    Their pastry's are flaky yet dense, sweet and made fresh with ingredients like pistachios, figs and honey.

    Their Keneffa is a must try, made fresh in house with imported cheese from the middle east. Keneffa is a Soft cheese that is served warm with honey… its their specialty.

    They sell their freshly baked desserts by the pound, don't be shy, make sure to order a little bit of everything.

    This is a hidden gem in Brooklyn.
