I really wanted to like this place. I love to support local businesses. The shop is cute, the decor is nice, the service is friendly, but the cupcakes are meh.
Sorry.
I bake. I bake a lot. I am picky, and my kids are picky. If someone makes an excellent cupcake I'll be the first to give them kudos, but these were odd. They taste like an industrial mix, and the frosting tastes plastic. It's not hard to make a good buttercream frosting, so I don't get it. I tried this place when it first opened, chalked my then-disappointing cupcake up to opening stress, but here we are all this time later and I really can't recommend the cupcakes.
The cupcakes are sizable, lovely to look at, but I didn't enjoy them. We tried a variety of flavors, slicing them up for the family, but everyone had the same reaction to them. They were disappointing. Prices (2.25 & up) are comparable to the NYC cupcake boutiques.
I will definitely give the owner credit for being a local supporter of charities, schools, etc. She is a community member, but I really am disappointed with the cupcakes. I think my favorites in NJ (so far) are at Confections of a Rock Star in Asbury, but who the heck has time to drive down there? I'm better off baking.
