Pecoraro Bakery

“Get here early and snag one of the many varieties of stuffed breads — the sausage, pepperoni or olive loaves are my favorites.”

“I usually go in with the intention of buying just one, then walk out with two or all three: one sausage, one pepperoni, and one olive.”

“The guys ended up being hilarious, striking up a fun conversation with my friend and I. We split a loaf of sausage bread for breakfast and it was some of the most amazing bread I have EVER had!!”

  1. Fresh croissants in Jersey City – that's all you need to know.

  2. Very nice staff and a great selection of yummy bread.  Getting there early will get you the largest selection, but getting there late in the day will get you some great discounts on what's left.  Love old school stores like this one!

  3. Pecoraro makes what could be the tastiest bread I've ever had.

I'd been meaning to check the place out for quite some time and now, living a block away, I figured I had no excuse for not hauling my tired self out of bed at noon on a Saturday and strolling on down.

Pecoraro serves a pretty wide selection of breads, croissants, rolls, and stuffed breads, all of which are quite cheap. I went with a sausage bread: a decent sizes full loaf of fresh bread stuffed with sausage.

The sausage, even when cold, had a nice hit of fennel but, that bread…

The bread is at once crisp and fluffy, dense yet light, chewy and soft. Everything you look for in bread. Pecoraro is very highly recommended.

  4. I can't believe I haven't penned a review for this spot yet!

I'll get straight to the point: sausage bread. Can there be anything less healthy (let's be honest, or amazing) then bread stuffed with delicious sausage? This whole in the wall, old school bakery serves up carbs like nobody's bizness. I have yet to dabble in their baguettes or croissants, but their various stuffed breads, you betcha. If you're looking for cakes, cookies and pies, keep movin' sister. Only the real deal bread bakery here.

I've had olive, spinach and the various meat breads and they are delicious. Put a slice in the toaster, heat it up and it's amazing. I do have to say that I like 2nd St. Bakery's sausage bread better. It has more stuffing, Pecoraro's bread was a bit more bready and less of the good stuff(ing).

Breads range from $4 for veggie and $5 for meat and I'm not quite sure pricing on non stuffed bread items. They typically close when they sell out or just are out of stuff, so do try to visit earlier in the day since what they cook in the AM is what their inventory's for the day.

    Happy carbing!
