Although I didn't actually buy anything here, I walked in to take a look, and for a store this small they have an excellent, large, and orderly selection of mid-range ($20-$60 per bottle) mostly American wines. You don't actually need a large square footage to have a lot of wine variety, it's all how you arrange it, and this is floor to high ceiling. Prices, though no bargain, are fair. The staff, three of whom asked if I needed any help, were uniformly courteous, friendly, and professional.
As I left, the man behind the register said "thank you sir" even though I didn't buy anything. It's like, hello, am I in New York? My phone says New York. Am I in Japan?
Note to self, if in Chelsea and in need of a good cabernet, go here.
Great little shop in a busy section of town. This wine merchant carries an excellent variety of reds, whites, roses and sparking wines, and the people who work there are more than happy to take their time discussing the bottles and finding the right ones for you.
I love it when a wine merchant knows every bottle in the store – this isn't just a simple transaction, folks – buying wine to be enjoyed is a very personal experience, and the guys at NYC Wine Merchants know what they're talking about. They don't take themselves too seriously, though – I could tell the dude who helped me was having fun, knew his stuff and really wanted to help me find the perfect vino.
The shop itself is lovely – very clean, modern, and filled to the brim with bottle upon bottle. Great place for the wine lover and those who are just into sippin'.
I was in line at the CVS across the street running an errand before going to someone's house. After I checked out, I noticed someone buying wine and said out loud that's where I was going next. The woman behind me said "there's an awesome wine shop across the street. Go there." Well, when I realized the CVS line was now 10 people long, I thought it was a good idea.
It's not a big shop but they make use of the high ceilings very well. The gentleman serving the tastings – four of them and apparently every evening – was very friendly. I didn't pick anybody's brain there, it seemed like there was one man who was knowledgeable though. There was a good selection of wines at various price points.
And sometimes it's the little things – the wine chiller there. no need to buy ahead of time or only limit the selection to the refrigerated ones. 🙂
To wash out my stress from the holiday 2013 madness and rush, I so needed a bottle of wine. With a budget of $11.00, I refused to spend more on something that I was going to drown out alone. Cheap wine bottle for a cheap night of alone time fun.
NYC Wine Merchants is a local neighborhood wine shop with enthusiastic and helpful customer service. The staff promptly responded to my needs and fulfill my desire for a cheap wine bottle of $11.00 enabling me for a cheap night of alone time fun.
