Galloway's is the definition of old school. A family-owned business just north of NYC, this bakery consistently delvers the goods every time I patron them.
The bakery is only open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays – but really their products are so good they probably don't need to be open more than that. While they serve a variety of baked items, for me the pies are the star. The cherry crumb is out of this world – one of the best pies I've ever had – period. The chocolate cream pie and apple crumb are other standouts for me – but in reality almost all of the pies are top drawer. Another standout item are their doughnut holes – the best has to be the jelly ones coated with powdered sugar; I can pop those like potato chips. They also have a good variety of rolls, muffins, and danish which are also high quality and tasty.
Come for the old school bakery feel, stay for the superb pies and doughnut holes. This place is a special treat that is a star amongst its peers.
I'll start with the good – really liked the friendly people working here.
This was my childhood favorite bakery and used to have the best lace cookies and little gingerbread men type and other cookies back in the good ole' days.
Fast forward to the bad new days-
Chocolate cream pie looked delicious but in reality tasted pretty flavorless- I should have listened to a Yelper's negative review below on this pie. $15 wasted.
Bran and corn muffins were pretty terrible and same with onion rolls.
Cookies were on sample and tasted days old.
I'll end with the good – though they were very small and $1.00 each- the jelly donuts were delicious!
I am a sucker for locally ran businesses. This cute little bakery at Westchester county is definitely worth visiting for their apple turnovers. The dough is pretty dense, i am used to flaky, croissant like apple turnovers, BUT, the crust is very crumbly and it melts in your mouth. It is topped with cinnamon sugar greatness, and when you bit into the crust, you get this sugar mustache-as opposed to the milk mustache 🙂 The apple filling is also delicious, and there is a good amount of filling inside the turnover…they don't skimp out on that.
Other deliciousness I've tried t this place is the coconut pie, banana cream pie, mini jelly donuts and the blueberry muffins. They're all good, and freshly baked…BUT DEFINITELY GET THE APPLE TURNOVER! yes, i was yelling….IT IS JUST SO GOOD!
This place is cash only, and gets very crowded on Sundays.
I heard great things about this pie shop. We were guests for dinner and our hostess served the key lime pie with cream for dessert and I have to say I was disappointed. Even our hostess who is a die hard Galloways fan said it was not good. Next time we are in Scarsdale and have a Galloways pie, I will update my review. For now, avoid the key lime pie.
