  1. Also known as Village Market (actually it WAS known as village market for a while and the name changed suddenly with the awning (from green to bright blue) last year sometime in the fall/winter.

I come here for my fruits and veggies and to discover what new organic treats NYC has to offer because they tend to sell them. They also sell some pre-packaged goods such as soup and cooked chickens and meatballs but I usually skim over these. They have a decent alcohol (beer) selection, some wine.

They're also owned by Koreans I think so there are some choices that lean towards asian market (Yay!).

  2. What's up with all the haters? This is a fancy Korean bodega – $1 ripe-ass avocados, $1.50 boxes of blueberries/raspberries, cheap veggies all around. And $1.50 Fage is cheaper than Union Market next door. $10 CC minimum, but whatever.

  3. This is definitely one of the better bodegas in town.  A huge store with a shocking array of items, including lots and lots of organic options and fresh produce.  I have to admit I've yet to not find something I was looking for here and the prices are actually pretty great. The location on 7th avenue is really welcome…it's a couple blocks North of Union Market, making it an easier trek from Center Slope.  They even have a new gelato stand out front that has proven very popular: there's always someone making a purchase when I pass by.  Really glad to have Food Train (such an unfortunate name!) in the neighborhood – it will continue to be a place we go often for staples, fresh produce, dairy and more.

  4. Stopped here to pick up some fresh fruit and left promptly.

This place is nasty. I am not sure if it was a one time fluke but the fruit they had inside on the selves were rotten and covered with fruit flies.  Its not like the fruit juuuuust went bad, no, these clearly had been sitting there for a while with some oranges covered in a beautifully consistent mold.  Gross. Come on, how do you not fix this.  If they cant keep the fruit fresh it makes me worry about the quality of the other food. I would never buy anything perishable here.

They actually have a good selection of baby food and packaged foods so thats saves this place from a 1 star review.

  5. Food train pretty much sucks. Yes, it is your generic Korean bodega but the produce is not that good. If  it wasn't across the street I don't think I would go there but when the weather is too bad to walk to Mr Lime or Steve's, and I can't bring myself to spend the extra $$ for Union Market, it will do. The other day there was a cat in the store. I presume two things from this: 1) the cat is a per se health code violation and 2) the cat was there because something else that is a per se violation was there.
