  1. Well thank goodness for a wine & spirits store in this neighborhood!  There used to be a crummy one at Grove Street square before it was a square and of course there is what I call the cupcake wine & spirits store on Columbus (for always promoting cupcake white wine in the window), but of course the best locally is Jersey Wine & Spirits on Jersey Ave.

So, all that said, Village Wine Liquors is welcomed and appreciated, but they can do better with the wine selection.  I see a lot of cheap bottles and not many $20 and up bottles.  Offered are the popular brands (though do not confuse this with "good").  Think of it as the Budweiser and Coors Light of the wine world.

When I was there last a beautiful girl at the counter was playing Tiesto from Pandora.

  2. A wine shop with a touch of cold beers and some hard liquor in the back, they have free wine tasting and some okay deals. The cheapest wines are around the $11-13, and they have an okay selection from across the globe, but nothing rare or exotic here. I suppose they cater more towards the guys that pop in from the next-door cigar shop that come to grab a bottle or two for consumption.

  3. Good selections of beer and wine, not too shabby on the liquor selection.  With so many BYOB restaurants in the neighborhood this store is so convenient!  Friendly staff, good sales, and they have tastings (which they aren't cheap about 😉 lol)

I'd like if they had recommendations on the wines or if they'd note what pairs with which wine best.  Other than that I will continue to return and leave happy 🙂

  4. Do they have the greatest selection of craft beer that I've ever seen? No.
Are they located downstairs from my apartment? Yes.

If the answer to at least one of those questions is yes, then you can bet your tush that I'm a frequent patron. Yes, I do wish that the beer selection was better, but if I'm making a legitimate beer run then I guess I could always drive over to buy-rite. If I'm in need of a quick six pack of something semi-decent, then I guess having Village Wine Liquors downstairs isn't half bad.

Beer aside, they've got pretty much any type of wine or hard alcohol that you could want. And overall, prices are pretty typical. It feels a tad more expensive then liquor stores back by where I grew up in Central NJ, but by Jersey City standards it's pretty average.

Weather is getting colder which means that I'm getting lazier, so having this liquor store a couple of feet away from my place makes life and alcoholism easier for me.

  5. Prices are good here, which is unusual considering the convenient downtown location.  Friendly service as well at the register.

  6. Nice selection of vino, cervezas y cava. Its my goto place when coming or going near/through the path. What makes it a standout for me is the really friendly and knowledgable guy that works there. Always really helpful and spot on with his recommendations. Prices are not bad for dtjc.
