A friend of ours had come for dinner and brought dessert from here. Everyone went crazy over everything. When I was in the area I stopped here to buy a treat for my family. Being gluten free I myself was not able to try what I purchased for my family, however they had some gluten free options. Gluten free chocolate cake and on another occasion a chocolate macaroon. Both were excellent. The owner said they are trying to do more gluten free products.
This place should be a must stop on the way to the Nj beaches. I stopped here on the way to Sandy Hook Beach with some foodie friends and everything here was delicious. The walnut brownies were intensely chocolatey and fudgey even though it was half melted by the time I ate it at the beach. Also, as many others have mentioned the sticky buns were excellent. The key lime pie is worth mentioning as well. When I was there they had very nice sized samples and the flavor was just the right amount of tartness and sweetness.
So do I drive an hour or more to go to a diner, bakery, or hamburger stand? Did I drive an hour and a half to come to the Flaky Tart? Yep. Did I regret it? Nope. Would I do it again? Hell yeah! I really can't find anything wrong with this fine establishment. I ordered a chocolate scone and a cupcake. It was later in the day so they were not as fresh as they would have been early in the morning, but they were damn good. I don't even know how much better it could get, hence why I have already started looking for apartments in the area so that I could be right down the street. We also sampled the coconut cake, which was out of this world. The staff couldn't have been friendlier. Places like the Flaky Tart really make you feel good inside…and also make you feel like dusting off the old tread mill.
Our coconut cake, the final chapter …
Dessert last night for our dinner party was of course coconut cake and it was a hugh hit and loved by all. So if you are one of those coconut cake lovers like us, you must pay a visit to the Flaky Tart and even if you're not go anyway as you will find something that is bound to please.
Thank you Marie …
Four stars, but I'd love to drop a 3 1/2 star review. Delightful staff, clean as a whistle, easy to find and park, delicious food. The only thing that hasn't thrilled me are the pre-wrapped cookies, because they weren't 'out of this world'. But make sure your wallet is full, as you're paying Manhattan prices. I know quality doesn't come cheap, but still . . .
