I live an avenue away from The Smith, so I come here often. This restaurant is very similar to the other NYC locations – spacious (read: usually pretty easy to get a table), loud (sit outside), just standard service, with pretty standard American fare at "standard" NYC prices.
A few of my menu favorites are brunch's sicilian baked eggs (basically shakshuka) and a side of chicken sausage. For dinner I go for crab cake tots (small crab cakes shaped like tater tots), lobster roll (bread isn't great but lots of lobster) or the daily dinner special.
Really like the cocktail selection, and how it's divided by flavor type (crisp, boozy, spicy, etc).
I resisted the Smith when it first moved into the neighborhood, but since Lincoln Center is pretty bare for food options, it's turned into an old standby.
This is an all time favorite of mine. It helps that it's a local spot but I'd travel here if I didn't live in the hood. The atmosphere is fun, lively and classy all at the same time. The waiters are utmost professional and seem to all have easy going and comedic personalities.
For an "American" restaurant on the upper west side, I'm always impressed but what an eclectic menu The Smith offers. I've tried several dishes and they all Wow me but my absolute favorite go to dish is the vegetable bibinbop. I love the Korean dish with an American spin… It's perfectly seasoned with a Korean flare yet you won't leave feeling sickly full like I have at actual Korean restaurants. This dish, for me, digests well and doesn't feel taste like it's packed with unnecessary sauces or creams. I came here last night with my family and we each got something different and everyone left with happy faces and full bellies.
I'd prefer to go here than try another place, to be honest.
My only gripe is that last night, I made reservations and requested to be seated outside. Had I not been with my mother, I would have waited the 20 minutes they said were needed to make an available table. I didn't want to make her wait and we were hungry so we were seated indoors.
It's summer though, what can I expect?
I think it's safe to say if you have been to one smith, then you have been to all of them. The food is consistant and they have a lot of choices, I wan't thrilled with the mac and chesse but eveything else was fine. I still think it's pricey for what you get.
Wow what a brunch. We always walk around The Smith around brunch time and look at the delicious plates the guests are enjoying and this time we tried it.
The Smith didn't disappoint. We ordered the scrambled egg whites and the mushroom omelette both were delicious and the home fries are great!
We also shared the French toast and it was amazing highly recommended to order it!
The only reason this is not a 5 star is the pet policy which only allows very few tables outside have dogs
It was packed when we went but we were quickly seated. The tables were very small and our group of four felt a bit crowded.
Both a bottle of sparkling and a bottle of flat water was served in empty wine bottles that were complimentary and frequently refilled for the table.
The eggplant rings we ordered to share were very crispy as were the fries in my sister's sandwich order and my brother's burger order. I enjoyed the specialty ketchup they served at the table.
I ordered the Goat Cheese and Tomato Flatbread. It was delicious though a bit too oily for my liking.
Service fell a bit near the end of our meal maybe because our server was off his shift. I had to find someone to give us the check.
Overall, it was a good place to eat though a bit loud for decent conversation.
Definitely a must go to for brunch! I've been for lunch and dinner, but their brunch dishes hit it out of the park. Let's start with the basics. Make ressies because this place gets packed both inside and outside. Outside you can bring your doggy which is awesome. Now the food! Everything our table ordered was delicious. The dishes are big enough to share. What you must get:
Simple scramble for the classic breakfast. Home fries are Bomb!
Omelette- amazing and huge
Pot pie egg dish- perfection! Packed with flavor and genius dish.
Avocado toast- beautiful looking dish. It's also great for an app to share.
The must have no matter what is their French toast with banana sauce. Holy moly freaking huge, delicious, and beyond great!
I looked around at other tables and everything they ordered looked delectable! I didn't get to try it, but I saw the donuts and biscuits for starters and the waffles! Next time a must order.
Overall great spot for brunch. Leave feeling satisfied and not disappointed!
I would give it a 3.5 based on my first experience. Service was great and attentive. We ordered Mac and cheese and the burger. Mac and cheese was good but not memorable enough to come back for it. The burger was actually delicious and I would come back to have the burger again. The restaurant is extremely spacious and has more space in the back which is convenient for those that need to make it to an event at Lincoln center.
There are a few things you can do to get an "automatic 1," no matter how good your food. The Smith did just one of those things. What was it, pray tell? Read on, fair… uh, reader.
We were looking for a "light" meal and had some brunch stuff. I had an eggs benedict and home fries, both pretty bland. Eggs benedict sauce didn't stand out, even though that's the best part of this dish typically.
On the plus side, the internal decor is nice. Lots of hustle and bustle, great if you like watching people interact with one another and feed off crowd energy, which I do. So why one star?!
When I went to the bathroom, I saw a Smith staffer exit after using the restroom and NOT washing his hands. This was after I ate.
Maybe I should be glad the eggs benedict wasn't very "rich." Who knows what more "extensive" preparation might have done to the dish.
