Located in the Cross Island shopping plaza, decent sized Key Food with a nice produce section, meat section and a huge seafood section. Checkout lines are well staffed, and the place is kept pretty neat.
I do not usually shop at this supermarket. However, if i am in the area i will pick up cold cuts and milk only. The deli counter is slow as molasses. Sometimes they have 2 clerks, sometimes they have 3. Either way they all work slow with no sense of urgency. I cannot believe nobody else notices it. The self check out machines are supposed to speed up the check out process but some of them are not working properly.
Just like probably hundreds of other Whitestone teens, I worked here during my high school days and from as far back as I could remember, this Key Food was a dump. Which a bit weird, since Whitestone is a well to do type of hood? You'd think we'd have some sweet ass Trader Joes or some gigantic Whole Foods. Nope, we just had a dingy little Key Food for years upon years.
I've been out of Whitestone for a few years now, but my folks are still there. Recently they've been continuing to rant and rave about the renovations and how this new fish section they put was so amazing.
While visiting them, I stopped in to pickup a few things and this store has done a complete 360. Literally brand new everything is seems like. A new dairy, fish, meat and produce section. The aisles seem to be wider. Everything seems a lot more in order. They have more variety with a lot of products now as well. This store definitely seems to have its shit together now.
They'll still hit you over the head for some high prices and you're car might get dinged by a lose shopping cart while in the shopping center parking lot, but this seems like the best place to go grocery shopping nowadays in Whitestone.
I am so ashamed of my local supermarket. The produce section is the worst! If I shop here, then I have to go to our local farm market as well. Every time I walk through the produce area I find something rotten or with mold. It is ALWAYS right on top! Clearly visible! Doesn't anybody work in this area and check the fruits and vegetables?! I saw a container with a nasty strawberry today. I even saw a prepackaged block of cheese with mold once. What a shame! I prefer to drive a few extra minutes to food shop somewhere else!
