  1. I walked into this L.E.S. Whole Foods to get an item.

I walked out not knowing what item that I was suppose to purchase.

    Must have been the BURGER!

    YES!

I just found out they had this sneaky little burger place INSIDE WHOLE FOODS on the first floor.

The burgers range in price but all CHEAPER and BETTER quality than some of the other places that are "known" for their burgers.

They have a system of filling out an order sheet like when they used to have paper ballots at the voting machines come election time.

You check what you want and leave the boxes blank on what you DON'T want.

I ordered the Turkey Burger which came out DELICIOUS!

Flavorful meat, good choice of self toppings and the size was just right for the price, EVEN AT WHOLE FOODS.

I also had a side of sweet potato fries.

Kind of soggy, a couple of the slim fries stuck together like they were frozen recently and didn't look as fresh as they should have.

It could have been the oil that they were put in.

Maybe, BUT I would recommend you skip the fries.

Service was a bit slower due to it being a workday during lunch.

However, it wasn't something you'd walk out of the store on so just be patient.

Now, if only the Whole Foods beer section would allow the purchase of their beers and drink it on premise at the tables on the second floor while eating your burger.

That would be some kind of AWESOME.

  2. Wow…Ok…i don't think i'll head back down there again.

Ok first of all – this place is inside Whole Foods – but not in the food court upstairs where you think it should be, no this place is down by the hot food and salad bar.  On top of that, after you get your burger you must wait on their ridiculously long line to pay with everyone else paying for groceries.  Soooo it's a bad time.

Next – the burger.  Ok i have to admit – it's sizeable, but that is all.  The beef is flavorless as it is cooked to well done, then a little past that.  Why?  Because the guy cooking them didn't know what he was doing.  he used a spatula to press the burger flat thus squeezing all the juices out of the meat.  He proceeded to do this until there were probably no more juices left.  A lot of people say this is OIL and needs to be done. NO this is FLAVOR.  You lose your flavor…i might as well be eating card board.

Next the bun – it's a pretzel bun.  It's heavy…like thick…but this bun was also pretty dry.  It was breaking apart and not spongy and soft on the inside.  Just dry and somewhat brittle.

Lastly is the fries – Fried to order but i can tell…the oil was not hot enough.  The fries were soggy with oil and just poor quality.  I couldn't eat it all b/c of the excess oil.  It was just a shame overall.

You're better off taking a walk or a train and going to Shake Shack.

  3. The Bowery Burger is awesome. I've lived right around the corner from this place for nearly three-quarters of a year and had no idea what I was missing! What the heck are you doing Whole Foods?! Theoretically you aren't suppose to have burgers that taste this darn good! I mean you are suppose to be a health food grocer.

This place's burgers can rival that of much of the city. Prices start off at about $5 and go up to $8 for a Bacon Double Grass Fed Beef Cheese Burger, Bacon Double Turkey Cheese Burger, or Special Burger that changes on a routine basis. I've only had the grass fed which happens to be very juicy. The bacon is solid and thick; not those skimpy little thin pieces.

Gluten free buns are optional for no additional charge.

What about the sides? They have both white and sweet potato fries for $2, typically cooked to order.

So how do you go about getting your hands on one of these burgers to enjoy?! Head to the area near the hot bar on the first level where you will see a sign that says Bowery Burger. In front of the station you will notice some white sheets of paper. Grab one, write your name atop, and proceed to making your selection of your customized burger. I usually go for tomatoes, lettuce, jalapeños, light mayo, grilled mushrooms and onions, ketchup, and light mayo or chipotle mayo.

For an added fee you can also get this thick guacamole spread that happens to come on the current special burger. I didn't like the special as much as the regular bacon cheese burger.

Now it's time for my confession. I must admit I visited Bowery Burger like three times in four days while studying for finals. I couldn't bring myself to checking-in each time. I even jumped on a CitiBike whn studying a small distance away to grab a burger. I felt like I should not have been visiting the Bowery Burger crew so often. Seldom visits make for better visits. HaHa

Now for a tip, …Typically the checkout lines immediately to the right have a longer wait time during weekday nights. If you go to the front of the store near the middle halfway between both entrances where the 11+ item checkout is you will get out the store quicker. Because of its location in an odd place no one goes there.

  4. It's far from a great burger.  It's just ok.  The main draw for me is the price.  You can get a burger and fries for $7, which will be of better quality than a fast food place.

However, the burger is pretty bland.  Fries are great though.

  5. If you have trouble finding this place, it is located inside the Whole Foods, but on the first floor by the buffet style food.  That should've been the first warning sign that this is in fact not a standalone burger joint, but rather just a whole foods cafeteria burger, with its own name in an attempt to differentiate.

I took value into consideration.  At $5 dollars for a hamburger or cheeseburger (and $7 for a double), and $6 with bacon, I thought it would still be worth it.  As much as I'd hate to admit it,  sometimes even my assumptions are wrong.

The beef patty was dry, not just because they grill them to a standard well-done here, but because the guy manning the grill pressed the hell out of the patty with the spatula.  He pressed it like six times!  And then the sign from heaven came, as if to emphasize the effort he made to de-juice the burgers, THE SPATULA BROKE.  Kinda funny, but not really because I got a dry patty.

The bread is nothing to hit home about either.  There was too much bread by far, and it wasn't exactly dry, but no where close to soft.

The one redeeming aspect of this place is that the fries are pretty good if you like semi-soggy fries (I love em), but if you like crispy ones, you're out of luck.  And they have sweet potato fries too, though I did not try those.
